Jeep on Fire
March 13, 2005
A flaming Jeep Cherokee with a fireman standing nearby
On my way to my brother's house in Houston, I stopped at Starbucks at Memorial and Beltway 8. When I left the store, I saw a giant plume of black smoke on the other side of the building. It was a car fire on the overpass I had just crossed minutes before. The fire department was already there. I took this picture after the flames and smoke had settled down. My camera was packed in my suitcase, and it took me a bit to dig it out. The car was a Jeep Cherokee. That night, I realized I'd left my ring on the sink in Starbucks. When I went back two days later, the barista said no one had turned it in. It wasn't expensive or sentimental, so it's no big deal. The barista gave me a free mocha, though, because he felt bad I'd lost my ring in their store.

Great picture. Any idea how it caught fire? Sorry about your ring even if it wasn't that valuable to you.

Thanks, Rob. I don't know how it caught fire. Someone I talked to later said Cherokees are susceptible to ignition fires.

We can totally relate. Early this morning we woke up to our Jeep Cherokee fully engulfed in flames. It hadn't been driven in a week so we know it wasn't hot. What a way to lose a car!!!

Did you ever find out how your jeep burned down. I had the same problem. In the middle of suing chrysler now because of course they won't cover anything even though it is obviously a defect with the car. tracy@akplaw.net

Hi Tracy,
It wasn't my jeep. I just happened to be there when it happened. I hope you get compensated for yours!

My brother's Jeep burned up last Thursday and he was in it. He is alive, but severely hurt, in a burn unit. No one knows how his vehicle caught fire.
