Me in my Squaw Costume

Me in my Squaw outfit
My mom dressed me up as an indian girl one year for Western Day at school. It wasn't such a great idea. I got chased by boys dressed up as cowboys who wanted to kill indians all day. That's our above ground pool in the background. It was cool, but I think we only had it one year. Maybe two. I think it was too much trouble to keep up.

looks like and sounds like you maybe forgot to put water in the pool. they're much less trouble to keep up with water in them. see, the water helps hold them up. helps hold the sides out taughtly and the liner down too. i know because we had one too when i was a kid. three feet deep, 12 feet across. but we kept water in it see, so it stayed up no problem.

Maybe that's why it hurt so much everytime I did a cannonball?

I'd like to say (in a perfect world) how terrible it was that those cowboys caused you so much trouble. But, to be truthful, had anybody on our block dressed up like an Indian (and I so know your mom meant well!), me and my 10-11yr old cowboy friends (posse!) would have been after the indian like white on rice! Like my friend Marvin, who in fourth grade went to Halloween Costume Day as a turtle, and everyone tried to push him on his back to see if a turtle could actually get up if he was on his shell. Sadly enough, Marv's mom made his costume (especially the shell) so big and puffy that it was really difficult for Marv to get up after he was pushed down on his back. I think that year I went to Halloween Costume Day as "Tron".

I know... I wish I had been smart enough to realize that the cowboys were going to chase me. It's hard to think like a boy when you're an elementary school girl. It's always hard, but at some point you realize boys are evil. wink

That's just so sad about Marv. That would make a good scene in a movie, though. laugh

you know personally, i'd rather have been an indian than a cowboy. indians seem so cool and cowboys wear those scarbes knotted around their necks and have those tucked in shirts and hot boots. i dunno, indians always seemed and still do seem cool and in tune. too bad you couldn't have kicked some cowboy ass when they were chasing you.
