I completely agree with your comment about Kim Novak's eyebrows. In some scenes, I couldn't concentrate on the dialogue or action because I was too distracted by those wild arches. I too thought she looked like a clown, especially as Judy. Still loved the movie, though!

I think I read that this is the first movie that Jimmy Stewart did where he wasn't a kindly sweet man. He was obsessed and nutty in this one. Maybe because there was foul play and he sensed it, but who knows? I thought I had seen this before, but I didn't remember a lot of it. It creeped me out how he wanted to remake Judy into Madeleine. Ick! I didn't like Kim Novak's character because she let him. And then the end was sucky except it made me wonder how the heck Jimmy Stewart was going to explain this one to that judge who was mean to him earlier in the movie.

Some things that really stuck out to me:
  • Kim Novak's eyebrows - I'm not saying I have great eyebrows. They probably need some shaping or whatever. But if I ever paint giant clown-like eyebrows on my face, shake me, okay?
  • Jimmy Stewart's floating head - it was a dream sequence, but it made me laugh. You can't see it in that picture, but his hair was flapping around, too.
  • The "vertigo" camera shots - I think I read somewhere that Hitchcock invented this style of shooting. It's where the camera zooms in, but moves farther away from the subject. Or maybe vice versa. It's hard to explain, but you can see it when Jimmy Stewart looks down the staircase at the Mission when he's chasing Kim Novak.
Here's an awesome site with pictures from Vertigo.

It probably sounds like I didn't like this movie, but I did. The scenery was beautiful, and even though it was slow at times, it kept me intrigued.
