I was surprised that I like the movie as well. I was expecting a crappy remake that made no sense (a female gunfighter) and was happy to find a good ol' spaghetti western with a few Tarantino touches.

I found the movie watchable but that's about all. I didn't think much of Sharon Stone. Hackman, Crowe, and Leonardo kept me from the remote.

Actually, I feel just the opposite: Sharon Stone kept me glued to the movie -- but when it was all over, it was the atmosphere (and yes, all the crazy camera angles) that stuck in my mind. Especially that shot near the end, where we see Gene Hackman in the background behind a HUGE closeup shot of the badge stuck in the dirt. It was weird stuff like that that made it all so surreal for me ...

The Quick and the Dead

The Quick and the Dead at Amazon
I didn't think I'd like this movie, but I watched it because of Russell Crowe. I'm glad I did because it was good. It had some over the top camera work that annoyed me a little, but I was able to get past that. I really liked Sharon Stone. I don't normally like her all that much. The name comes from the contest that the movie is about. Gunslingers enter the contest and fight one per day until there's only one gunslinger standing. The winner gets a bunch of money, and the losers get dead. So you're either quick or you're dead.

Gene Hackman plays a real jerk. I like him better when he's a nice guy. Sharon Stone is out to get him for something he did to her and her father in the past. That slowly gets revealed throughout the movie, and when it's all out on the table, it's pretty sad.

Yay! for The Quick and the Dead!
