I'm going to look for this remake. The original is just about as perfect as it can be and I can't imagine anyone as good as Quinn Cummings as Lucy. I have always liked Jeff Daniels although I think his choices of roles is curious.

Quinn Cummings was classic. Hallie Kate doesn't live up to Quinn, but she still does well, I think.

I remember the original movie. It was okay. It would be interesting to see this remake. Sometimes the remakes are so much better.

The Goodbye Girl (2004)

Patricia Heaton and Jeff Daniels are good in this remake of Neil Simon's screen adaptation of The Goodbye Girl. Heaton plays Paula who has had bad luck in relationships with actors. When her latest actor boyfriend leaves her, she swears she'll never date another actor. You can probably figure out what happens next (she meets an actor). Hallie Kate Eisenberg plays Lucy, Paula's daughter. The scenes between her and Heaton are fun.

Paula: Be tactful.
Lucy: What's tactful?
Paula: Lie.
The surprise rooftop scene is terribly romantic.

I liked the remake. I liked the original. Maybe because the writing is wonderful. Neil Simon is a funny man.

Yay! for The Goodbye Girl.
