When I saw The Family Man, I kept thinking to myself, too bad he didn't have Dean Stockwell and Ziggy like Dr. Sam Becket did in Quantum Leap.

Oh yeah! I loved that show, but it always made me feel uneasy, too. I might have to start recording that if TiVo can find it.

The Family Man

The Family Man at Amazon
I think fans of Nicholas Cage will like this movie. It kinda explores what makes a person happier... success in business with lots of money or not so much money but a great spouse and family. Nicholas Cage is a successful Wall Street guy who goes to sleep one night and wakes up with a family. You know... what it would be like for him if he had decided to stay with his girlfriend 13 years earlier instead of pursuing his career dreams. It's only temporary, though. The "angel" (or whatever) that made this happen told him it's only a glimpse at what would happen. I didn't understand about the "angel." He intervened, but the movie never explained why he did it.

Situations like this always make me uneasy. Here's this guy who wakes up in a completely different life, but he doesn't have all the information he needs to live it. He doesn't know where he works. He doesn't know the routine. He has friends who talk to him, but he's never really met them before. Can you imagine? It reminds me of that book Sybil.... one of her other personalities would take over her life for a while and when she came back in control, she'd have to go to school and take a test she didn't study for or whatever. Yech! I need to be in control of my life and that kind of stuff give me the willies.

But that makes this movie sound too serious and scary. It's not. It's a feel good movie.
