I've never seen the Kim Novak version, but a few eyars back on PBS, there was an excellent version of Moll Flanders. It doesn't surprise me that a 50's version wasn't all that good, since the actual book is quite sexy and erotic, things that you wouldnt have been able to show back in the day.
