It's hard to give a movie that's depressing a "Yay!" even though I like 'em. Doesn't feel right. I'm not sure this one would get a full "Yay!", but it's worth watching if you're flipping channels and come across it.

TiVo recorded this one as a suggestion. I don't always watch suggestions, but it caught my eye. If I had relied on the DVD cover and the description, I never would have watched it. Neither gives a good portrayal of what the movie is really about. The DVD cover looks like it's a comedy, but it's far from that. The TiVo description says, "A married man with a struggling business has a fling with his secretary." Are those TiVo description writers high? It's about high school kids! And one girl in particular, Cat. Cat's played by Dominique Swain. I really like her in this. She reminds me some of Claire Danes in "My So-Called Life." She's a girl who is just trying to fit in, but not a misfit... a pretty girl who wants to hang with the popular crowd particularly because she likes a guy named William.

William is played by Brad Renfro. At first, he seems like a dreamy regular guy. But the more we see of William, the more we see how screwed up he is.

Scott Thompson from "The Kids in The Hall" plays a real strange character. He's usually there with the popular kids, but he's much older. I didn't recognize him at first. Not until a real quirky part of the story the morning after William and Cat sleep together.

This movie shows that sometimes it's hard to be a high school kid. I liked it a lot.
