I just happened to have caught this movie last night. Very interesting, and lots of fun trying to figure out the Cusak character. Hackman was evil, Dustin Hoffman, eh. Overall I enjoyed it.

Oh yeah... Cusack was a mystery most of the movie. That was neat.

It was pretty good, but I had some problems with parts of it. First of all: Deliberately getting yourself on a particular jury? Highly doubtful.
Also: I'm peeved by the fact that the director changed it from being an anti-tobacco lawsuit (in the book) to an anti-gun suit. I don't really mind that the movie had an anti-gun message, but when a novelist goes to the trouble of writing a book (especially one of the greats like Grisham), you just don't take the guts of the plot and change it to fit your own political agenda.
Plus: Lately I've been bored to death by Gene Hackman playing the exact same character in every movie he's ever been in. He never does any accents, no costumes (except for the bald head in one of the Superman movies) -- he just shows up and walks through it. I like him okay, but it's just ridiculous to have this same character in hundreds of different movies over 40 years ...

I've never read the book, so I didn't know of the plot change. I took it as it was. As far as Gene Hackman, I'll admit that I'm not much of a movie buff- every now and then I watch one, but I'm not really familiar with all his movies. Yeah, I saw Superman, and the one he did stealing gold and turning it into pipe. If he plays the same thing constantly, I don't know. But just remember - so did Hopalong Cassidy.

I didn't read the book, either. I'm not much of a Hackman fan. I know what you mean about him playing the same character all the time. I don't mind him as much when he's not being evil, but I can't take that smile of his when he's being a bad boy.
