In all honesty, what Jimmy Stewart was doing in that movie is kinda creepy. Spying on people with a telephoto lens. He was also kinda selfish and a bit of a slob. Not a typical Jimmy Stewart character.

Thelma Ritter never gave a bad performance in any movie I ever saw. She was a gem.

You're just now finding out what Rear Window was about? Welcome to 1954, Kim! Ha!

Seriously, that movie has been parodied on everything from Get Smart to The Simpsons!

I saw it on TV when I was about 10 -- it was fascinating, especially all those other stories going on.

But y'all are right, what he was doing IS kinda creepy. And we all know that he wasn't motivated by curiousity -- we know what kind of stuff he was REALLY wanting to see, they just couldn't come right out and say it back then ...

I don't remember seeing any of the parodies, but I might not have known they were parodies. I dunno... I'd definitely heard of the movie before. I wonder what that vision is really from.. the one with the eyes reflected in the rear view mirror. I'm sure I've seen it on a movie cover or poster or something.

Whenever I saw this movie title, I always got an image of a rearview mirror reflecting Jimmy Stewart's eyes. I thought the "rear window" was in a car. Now I know better. Stewart is stuck in a wheel chair because he broke his leg, so he spends his days and nights looking out the window at the rear of his apartment. If you know me well, you know I don't generally like old movies. I watch them, though, because someone will recommend one, or I'll read something good about one, or Kim Novak will be in one. She's not in this one. I think Rob recommended I watch it.

It was a bit longer than I would have liked, but it was tolerable. My main complaint about most old movies is that the actors over act. Nobody was too over the top here. Thelma Ritter was wonderful! She acted like good actors act today... not affected at all.

So Stewart sees some odd behavior by his neighbor, Raymond Burr, and thinks he killed his wife. The rest of the movie is Stewart and Grace Kelly trying to prove it.

There are a couple of charming side stories about a lonely lady in the apartment below Raymond Burr's, a composer, and a dancer. Interesting how Hitchcock could tell their stories with the audience only looking across a courtyard into their windows and not being able to hear much of their conversations. That was brilliant.

I'm glad I watched this one.
