I 'think' I know the reason they named this movie as such. Typically, and I say 'typically' tongue in cheek, men will stay in a relationship until they die. In other words, it could be an unhappy marriage for the woman, but the man has every need satisfied, so why leave? Of course, this says nothing regarding the man who will leave when anything, and I mean anything, will cause him to want to pick up and move along. I.e., bills stress him out, a new young thing comes along, etc.

That sounds true about men. I think, generally, they have simple needs.

I loved this movie. A lot. Jessica Lange is a widow and mother of two. When her husband dies, he leaves her with some big bills. She has to move from a small town to Baltimore to find a job. I thought this movie was going to be all kinds of serious, but there's some quirkiness to keep it light. Joan Cusack provides most of the quirk, as she does so well. Arliss Howard is great as Lange's love interest. I don't know what it is about that guy, but he steals my heart when he plays a good guy. smile

One of my favorite parts is when Lange goes to Howard because she's feeling down:

Howard: How are ya?
Lange: I feel so... very sad.
Howard: (hugs her) Would you like to go to a land where there is no sadness... where everybody's fatter than you?

Scene cuts to a place where people are polka dancing!

Where are the men like that in the real world?

Other familiar faces in it were Chris O'Donnell, a slim Kathy Bates, and Kevin Corrigan (love that guy's Bronx accent!). Unfortunately, TiVo cut off the end, and it's not coming on again soon. Boo Hoo. It looks like it was a pretty happy ending, though.

Yay! for Men Don't Leave! Oh... I don't know why they call it Men Don't Leave. Do you?
