D.O.A.

I don't think the cover of the video tape is representative of this movie. Looks like a love story, but it's really a mystery. No matter... it was filmed in San Marcos and Austin and that makes it ubercool. In fact, some of it was filmed on the campus of Southwest Texas State University while I was a student there. A guy I knew (Trey-see picture below) was an extra in it. I feel a little cheated, though. I went to the set when they were filming the funeral scene and saw Trey getting filmed, but I didn't know there were famous actors in it until it came out. Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan were right there and since I didn't know it, I didn't pay attention to anyone else. I figured any movie filmed on the campus of my college was probably a low budget, no name film. D'oh!! Anyway... Trey was prominent in the classroom scene at the beginning. He was sitting in the background to the left of Nick fanning himself with some paper.

There were other scenes where I recognized places. They showed the stairs at the Capitol, and I think some of the scenes were the hallways at the Capitol. They showed a scene at the Continental Club with Timbuk 3 playing. The exterior of the freshman girls' dorm was really the J.C. Kellum building (affectionately known as the "giant cheese grater"). There's a picture below, but it's after they renovated it. It used to look more like a cheese grater because some of the windows were shaped funny. You'll see what I mean if you watch D.O.A. It housed the administrative offices and the library at the time of the film.

There were also scenes filmed on 6th Street, which is the happening bar scene here. I saw Maggie Maes' sign. I've been there a few times. And then there was the funeral scene filmed at the communications building. It's a cool round red building (see picture below). I had a speech class there.
