I really disliked that movie. I kept right on watching thinking maybe it would redeem itself. Nope.

i haven't seen closer but other movies have triggered similar crying in me... most notably before sunrise and lost in translation for love that could've/should've been with the backdrop of my own past experiences. funny how movies do that.

I don't think there was any love in Closer. I think all of the characters were pretty much worthless. The only one I thought had any quality was the Portman character but she lied from the very beginning and only told the truth to hurt Owen's character. It was a hard movie to watch and I don't need to see it again. None of them deserved happiness.

Hi Christy, Yep... a rotten movie!

Hi k-sue, I haven't seen either of the movies you mentioned. I wonder if I should?

Hi Rob, You're right... there was no love in Closer. The way Portman's character was walking at the end gave me the impression she was looking for the next person to "love" and leave. She was definitely turning some heads.

I'm so glad to hear someone else say this movie was bad. My mother and I went to see it in the theaters and both of us hated it...and we love every movie we see just by virtue that it's a movie! And it got so many Oscar nominations...I was completely baffled by that.

Yech! I'd hate it even more to see it at the theater. tongue

I had it on TiVo, but I can't remember what prompted me to record it. Maybe it was the Oscar nominations.

I knew there was a reason I didn't go to see this movie - thanks for the review, I'll know to skip it on NetFlix as well!

Closer was very hard to watch. I should have turned it off early on, but I kept thinking something good would happen. In the beginning, that creepy Jude Law meets Natalie Portman, and they fall in love. Enter Julie Roberts and Law's eye wanders. With Roberts not accepting his advances, Law takes revenge. It spirals from there. Clive Owens plays the most disturbing character of all, and he thinks he's the "nice" guy. There's a lot of hurtful, crude talk. Portman is an interesting character, but unfortunately, we don't get much of an understanding of her.

Right up until the end, I hated this movie. I figured I'd turn off the TV when the credits rolled and that would be that. But then I started crying. A deeply emotional tear-letting that was probably triggered by Damien Rice's "Blower's Daughter" that played over the beginning and end. But it was more than that... I felt like I was crying for all that love that wasn't healthy, love that ended as abruptly as it began, love that should have made people happy, but didn't. I don't want to think about love that way. Love should be good. Love in Closer wasn't good.
