People overact in old movies. Especially old movies with children! But this was one of my favorite books when I was a kid. I read it at least twice. I've seen the movie before, too.
The thing I remembered most from reading the book was the car, "Foolish Carriage." I didn't remember the name they called it, but I remembered it was a Pierce Arrow. I'm not sure they even mention that in the movie... it's just one of those little things that stayed lodged in my brain all these years. When I think of "Pierce Arrow," I think of that song, "Me and My Arrow." And that makes me think of a very short segment from an animated show, but I don't know which one. When I think of that animated show, I feel sad. Isn't it wierd how these threads of thought pan out?
