But I agree, I didn't enjoy all these greasy guys strutting around swindling people out of their money. I didn't watch the whole thing ... (PS: I did finally post last night, both places -- just right before midnight!) July 3, 2005 09:56 AM Rob said:I liked it. Vin Diesel cast against type a little but this was made before he had a type. I have mixed emotions about people who get sucked into most swindle operations. They don't prey entirely on ignorance. They also prey on greed. If someone puts their life's savings into a get rich quick scheme, I don't feel all that bad for them if they lose it. Ps...I was just thinking I need to write down things about movies that make it hard for me to watch. Yay! Movies!MovieBoiler Room
Giovanni Ribisi is a college aged kid who's running an illegal gambling business. He's making pretty good money, but his dad sure is mad at him. His dad's a judge and looks just like Arvin Sloane from "Alias."
Trying to be respectable and please his dad, he gets a job at a stock brokerage firm or whatever it's called. He's trying to become a quick millionaire like the guys who run the firm promise. He gets real good at selling stock, too. But it turns out they're bad guys, and they make him ruin people's lives. That doesn't sit well with him or his dad when his dad finds out.
I don't understand the scheme the firm is running. Sometimes when I don't understand something in a movie, I just go with it, but I wish I understood this. I think I need some visual aids. Or even better: some private tutoring from muckdog. Vin Diesel is good as one of the guys who works at the firm. He doesn't know it's all a scam, though. Ben Affleck and Tom Everett Scott are in it, too. The movie was okay. The story is shady and makes me sick to my stomach. Judge a movie by the DVD cover rating: 4 out of 5. New York, a stock ticker and Giovanni Ribisi looking grim but a little too confident with a side of Vin Diesel and Nia Long. More information and purchase: Boiler Room
