Yay! Movies!MovieBig Bad Love
I wasn't greatly impressed with this movie, but I think I'm glad I watched it. Arliss Howard is a writer trying to get his stories published, but mostly getting a mailbox full of rejection letters. He's a Vietnam vet separated from his wife and family, too.
There are a lot of fantasy sequences that made it unsettling and sometimes hard to follow. Except for the one where he's taking the teddy bear up to his wife's house to give his son. He's got night vision goggles on and is trying to avoid mortar fire. That was kinda cute.
Arliss Howard is the writer. He's grimey, and he smokes and drinks a lot, but every once in a while he smiles and that's a joy to see. Debra Winger plays his estranged wife who he wants back. There's a boxcar parked at the edge of Arliss Howard's land, so he painted a landscape on it. If I had the talent, paint and motivation, I'd paint a landscape on my privacy fence in my backyard. How cool would that be? Another thing I liked was Rosanna Arquette mixing up a cliche. She said, "Half o' one, Six o' dozen of the other." Mixing up cliches rocks. I think I wasn't impressed with the movie because I thought it was going to be a love story. It was on the Love Stories channel and the previews showed Howard and Winger getting married. That was just a flashback. The DVD cover looks like it's a love story, too. It really wasn't much of a love story. If you watch it, keep that in mind. You might like it better than I did.
