yup, the special effects are pretty great, and if you go to Universal Studios Hollywood, DEFINETLY check out the Backdraft exibet to experience the effects first hand (that fire is real, my friends......) Anyway being the Ron Howard nut that i am (i don't think i've missed a single episode of Happy Days) you may not want to listen to a crazed rant.

Hello,
I am a firefighter
and Backdraft is my favorite movie. Whoever wrote the review for it obviously doesn't even know what a backdraft is.
When oxygen is cut off froim a fire is secretes itself to where it is. If there is a sudden burst of oxygen that enters the fire then it creates a backdraft or a flash over. When the smoke comes out from under the door it means that the fire is trying to breathe and get ventilation. If you have any questions or comments please e-mail me and maybe I can help. By the way, I also don't particularlly like the ending of Backdraft because I like Bull and I also have gone through the unfortunate event of seeing a many firefighters from my department die in a fire. God Bless them.

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the comments. I understood what a backdraft is. I'm not sure why you said I didn't. My comments were about the special effects and how amazing they made the fire work in the movie.
Anyhow... thanks for stopping by and good luck with the firefighting!
