Apollo 13 was the third mission to the moon. What was really amazing is that they even got home at all. All launches happened in Florida with Houston as the main control center for all spaceflight after 1966 I believe. One of the reasons that the Houston facility is called the LB Johnson Space Center is because he was an enthustaic supporter of the space program. If you are interested I definately recommend buying or renting "From Earth to the Moon" which was Tom Hank's attempt to show the entire Apollo program. If you can sit and watch it for several nights its wonderful. Just takes a little dedication. December 26, 2004 02:13 AM kim said:Thanks, Stephen. I have no idea where I got "1976." I did a search, and it was really in 1970. I've been wanting to see "From Earth to the Moon," but I just haven't taken the time. I will. Thanks for posting! Yay! Movies!MovieApollo 13
This near tragedy happened in 1970**. I was 6 years old, so I don't remember it at all. I remember one Apollo mission, though, I was in the car, and we were listening to a lift off on the radio. When lift off happened, I was looking all around every way in hopes to see the rocket going up. Back then I thought the launches happened in Houston.
This is such a great movie. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I was still at the edge of my seat. I felt the same degree of emotion as the first time I saw it. I think that's a combination of a great soundtrack, great acting, great editing and great directing. And I love that the heroics in this movie come from the brain... physics and engineering and chemistry. Real nerdy stuff. But very important stuff.
**Thanks to Stephen for correcting my original erroneous date for this. More information and purchase: Apollo 13
