Feeling Better [09/28/04]
I'm finally feeling better. It's been 2.5 weeks since I first got the creeping crud. Today was the first day I felt like my energy level was back up to par. I've got my speaking voice back. My singing voice is still suffering. My fear is that I got this so early in the season that I might get it again. I hope not!
Maybe this weekend I'll start my evening walks again. I got the little camera I ordered a few weeks back. I'll write about it soon (with pictures!). It'll be great to have a little camera with me on my walks. I'll take pictures of kitties and doggies and houses I like and that mailbox made out of an outboard boat motor I've always wanted to photograph.

Dream Journal - Cute Bugs [09/27/04]
There were two bugs on the floor of my spare bedroom. They were cartoon bugs, about the size of my palm. Kind of a mix between dung beetles and lady bugs. They had big cartoon eyes that looked up at me. One was a smaller than the other as if they were mother and child.
I had a big glove on, like an oven mitt. I put my gloved hand down to the floor and one of them crawled onto the glove. I wanted to pick both up, so I put my hand down there again and got them both. I walked slowly to the open window in the dining room and gently put them outside.
The Vet, Television and Whole Wheat Spaghetti [09/27/04]
- I took LilyDawg to the vet today. I thought she was going to have a little doggy heart attack. Poor thing. She can't deal with being restrained, and if someone's poking and prodding her and someone else is trying to hold her still, it gets ugly. She doesn't try to bite, though. She just wiggles like crazy and pants and drools. The vet put a note on her chart that the next time we come in, they should sit down on the floor and play with her a while before they start poking and prodding her. They couldn't get a stool sample from her hiney, so they sent a stool sample collection kit home with me. It's called a Fecalyzer. hah! I hope she poops tonight.
- I set up a season pass for the new CSI: New York, but I cancelled it before the first one recorded. I tried to watch the CSI: Miami episode where they introduce the New York people and couldn't stay focused. Those CSI shows bore me to death. I like to watch true crime stories with an emphasis on crime scene investigation, though.
- I watched part of Rob Lowe's new show, dr. vegas Saturday night. It was kinda cute. I set up a season pass for that, too. It might not last, though, because it'll probably interfere with college football.
- I made some spaghetti last night with whole wheat pasta. Never again. Blech!

A father asks Metafilter members about things his 6-year-old daughter sees that other people don't.
I didn't regularly see things when I was a kid, nor did I have imaginary friends, but there's one thing I did see. Tiny people moving about the curtains in my parents' bedroom. My parents had thick curtains covering the window hanging almost from ceiling to floor. Sometimes I'd sleep in there, and when I'd wake up, the thick curtains would be blocking out most of the light. But there was just enough light to see the hundreds of little shadows walking along the top of the curtains and walking up and down the creases. They were very much like ants... walking single file back and forth, up and down. I think they also had covered wagons that they pulled. I think there were animals, too. They didn't scare me. I would just lay in the bed and watch them until I fell back asleep or someone got me up out of bed.

God's Back [09/24/04]
Yay! God's back on Joan of Arcadia. My favorite version of God is the little girl. I wasn't sure how they were going to bring God back, but the way they did it was perfect. At the end of last season, they explained Joan's interactions with God as a symptom of Lyme disease. But this season, they just continued on with God being God. Seems the Lyme disease was just to show her what "crazy" is like so she'll stop thinking she's crazy and believe. That's so something that God would do.
I didn't understand the part when she read the quote from Howard's End. I had to look up the full quote because she only read the first two words aloud and showed emotion as she read the rest.
Jason Ritter looks sooo much like his Dad. Especially when he was playing basketball.
I'm glad God and Joan and Grace and Adam are back. It's been a long summer without them! Next week's looks like a tear jerker.

I Forgot How To Stop [09/20/04]
I got pulled over a couple weeks ago. When I saw the trooper behind me with his lights on, I kept expecting him to pull around me really fast, but he stayed behind me. I pulled over, and he told me I had rolled through a stop sign a few blocks back. I didn't question it, but I had absolutely no recollection of it. I kinda remember there was another car on the cross street, and that car went before me even though I got to the stop sign first.
Luckily, he only gave me a warning. That was just about the time I saved $600 on my car insurance by switching to Geico... I didn't want another ticket on my record.
Since then, I've realized that I hardly ever stop at stop signs unless cars are coming. It's not that I'm intentionally disregarding the law. It's just that I forgot how to stop at stop signs. I've been trying to do better, but I still catch myself rolling through. I hope the troopers don't catch me again.
On another kinda sorta related note... I was at an intersection with a stop light and two right turn lanes the other day. I was in the right-most lane. A lady was in the lane next to me. The law says, I can turn right on red, but the lady next to me can't. You can only turn right on red when you're turning against the curb. An SUV driver behind that lady was honking at her to GO. That really got my hackles up. I *hate* when people use their horns to be bossy. And this SUV driver wanted her to break the law!! Poop on that SUV driver.

Back at Work Today [09/17/04]
I went back to work today. I'm feeling better, but I still have a cough, congestion and I've lost my voice. I found Brenda Vaccaro's voice, though. So Brenda... if you want your voice back, call me, hon.
I worked 9.5 hours, and I think I might go in for a few hours tomorrow. Only thing I'm concerned about is that one of the Austin City Limits Music Festival venues is close to where I work, and they're using our parking lot for parking. It'll cost me $5. Blah... paying $5 to go to work on a Saturday. But I want to work, so I'll probably do it.
I'm having canned soup for dinner. I took it out of the can and heated it up, though. Progresso has jumped on the Low Carb bandwagon. Whooot! I'm having Tuscan Meatball soup. I'm so glad... most soups have potatoes, carrots or both, and I don't eat those things. Well, sometimes I do, but still.
I decided to watch Survivor this season. I haven't watched a full season since the first one. It was weird... when they got to the end and they voted someone off, I was like, "Who the hell is that?" I either wasn't paying much attention, or the person was extremely nondescript.
That is all.

Sick. Blah. [09/14/04]
I went to work today. I was feeling pretty good this morning, but it went downhill from there. I'm still sick, and not only that... I'm sicker than yesterday. The creeping crud has creeped into my chest where it's making me cough. It hurts. My nose is running, too, which is so icky. Luckily, toilet paper was on sale a couple weeks ago, and I bought a buttload (pun intended). I can use that to sop up the leakage in my nose.
I doubt I'll feel well enough to go to work tomorrow. Poop. Poop and a half, even.

Dream Journal - A Tainted Orange and Kurt Cobain [09/14/04]
I was eating an orange (or maybe I was given part of an orange and hadn't started eating it yet). It was all peeled and almost half of the segmets were gone. I noticed something black inside one of the segments. It was almost as big as the segment. Then the black thing moved. I was freaked out! I dropped the orange on the floor. It became covered with black fur shed from my prior dog Mandy.
I picked it up and started pulling the fur off, but I was still freaked out that something was in the orange. When I got it cleaned off, I looked really close at the black thing, and it turned out to be a really tiny baby bear.
Different dream:
I was in a small house or apartment sitting on a couch. Kurt Cobain came in. I think he was my cousin. We were watching TV together, and it was cool. Then he lit a cigarette. I thought about it and figured I shouldn't tell him not to smoke. I think we were at my parents' home, and they would allow it, so I couldn't do much. I wish I could have, though, because my clothes were hanging right there, and I knew they would smell nasty after that.
He took a drag on the cigarette and practically the whole thing burned down. There was one really long ash on it. He took the ash (that strangely held together) and threw it on me. I was really upset, but I didn't want him to know, so I got up and turned around so he wouldn't see me crying. I got the ash off and sat back down. A minute or so later, he did something else, and the rest of the lit cigarette fell on my pants leg. Yuck.
A few minutes later I was laying on my side on the couch, and he was laying down, too, leaning against me. It was non-sexual. But then Courtney Love walked by, and she wasn't very happy.

Still Suffering [09/13/04]
I'm still suffering from the creeping crud. I stayed home from work today. I feel a little better this evening, but this junk keeps morphing. It hasn't gotten into my chest yet. Let's hope it stays away.
So today I slept and watched TV and drank apple juice and water all day. I miss taking my evening walk. Come to think of it... everytime I get started on an exercise routine, illness intervenes. I'd make the joke that I'm allergic to exercise, but I don't really believe that.
I hope I feel much better tomorrow. I want to go back to work.

Sore Throat, Website Problems, and Football [09/12/04]
This weekend hasn't been the best. If you stopped by my blog yesterday morning or afternoon, you know it was messed up. My web host decreased my web space limit below what I'm using, and it screwed up the rebuild process on my blogs. Since the billing people aren't there on the weekends, we're not sure if something got screwed up with a payment, or if they screwed something up when they did some maintenance. Doesn't matter... they re-established my previous space limit and the billing people will look at things Monday.
One good thing that came from that... it got me kick started working on my photo album from my trip to Portland since I couldn't fart around on my blogs. I got all the pictures processed, so I just need to put the pages together.
Friday night, I had the worst headache I've had in a while. Turns out it was a precursor to a constantly morphing cold or flu or virus or whatever. Today, I have an awful sore throat. I think steam comes out of my ears everytime I swallow. How come sore throats hurt 5 times worse when one is laying down (or is that lying down)? Hey... that's two questions in one!
I know things could be a lot worse, but I had to get the complaining out. I feel a little better now.
I did pretty well on the college football pool this week. I picked 10 out of 16 games correctly against the spread. Whooot! That was good for a 12 way tie for third place. My share of the pot is just over $3. That's more than I made all last year.
Even better than winning $3, though, is the Longhorns beating the Razorbacks. Yay! Hook 'em 'Horns!!

Just Some Stuff about Walking in my Neighborhood [09/08/04]
- I've been walking around my neighborhood in the evenings since Saturday night. Not tonight, though. I came home and fell asleep on the couch.
- I've noticed when I drive through my neighborhood, I see houses. I see people and their houses. I see the houses with nice yards and houses with not so nice yards. I see cats in front of houses and dogs in the backyards of houses. But when I walk around the neighborhood, instead of houses, I see homes. I get a glimpse of people living their lives. I guess it has to do with walking along the sidewalk in someone's front yard as opposed to looking out from the solitude of my fishbowl car.
- I've seen a lot of houses for sale on my walks. One house is being remodeled, and I saw stainless steel appliances through the window. It makes me yearn for another life.
- I'm good at stumbling on cracks in the sidewalk.
- Yesterday, I walked on some streets I hadn't walked on before. One street I walked on, I *thought* it was one I hadn't walked on before until I got to the end of it. Then I realized I'd been down it a few times before, but I'd walked on the other side of the street.
- Yesterday, I was watching a couple of women play with a Jack Russell Terrier in a front yard. They were throwing a small frisby, and the dog was going crazy running after it and bringing it back. It made me smile really big. When I turned my head to look where I was going, I was still smiling. I looked right into the face of a little girl sitting on a bicycle. She smiled a great big smile back and asked, "What's your name?" I replied, "Kim. What's yours?" She said, "Theresa." I said, "Hello, Theresa!" She said, "Hello, Kim!"
- I watched a boy ride by on a bicycle carrying a twelve pack of Dr. Peppers. I'd have a hard time riding a bike and carrying a twelve pack of soda. He kinda had a hard time, too, but he was determined.

Dream Journal - Going to Cook Breakfast [09/07/04]
I was in a house, and Joani, the manager of a division at work, asked if I would cook breakfast. She mentioned two items for me to cook. I don't remember what they were, but one of them had the word "secret" in its name. I told other people there that I would cook enough for them, too.
I went in the kitchen and saw a bi-level rice steamer made of wicker in the shape of a pagoda. The top half had white rice and the bottom had brown rice. I figured that was Francine's from Change Management.

I went in the kitchen and saw a bi-level rice steamer made of wicker in the shape of a pagoda. The top half had white rice and the bottom had brown rice. I figured that was Francine's from Change Management.

A little luck (good and bad) and storage galore! [09/06/04]
I was up at 9:30 this morning, so I figured I'd get a lot done on my to do list like I did Saturday and Sunday. Today was different, though. Saturday and Sunday went by like days used to go by before I got, um, older. Plenty of time to do things. It was awesome. But today went by too fast. I think it's because I went shopping. That takes a big ol' chunk out of the day, and doesn't feel like I really *did* anything.
One item on my to do list was to acquire and install a second hard drive. I've been agonizing over a hard drive purchase for weeks. My computer keeps complaining about low storage space which is funny because it still had 2 or 3 gig. I remember when we only had 20 megabytes total on a computer! So I'd move some things to my backup drive to free up space.
I'd been to CompUSA once, and looked at hard drives, but couldn't bring myself to purchase one. I'm glad I waited. Today they had 200 gig hard drives on sale for $99. Whooot! So I'm 200 gig richer in storage space!
At the grocery, I had bad luck and good luck. The eggs I bought disappeared between the time they scanned them and the time I got home. Poop. The good luck was that I won $4 on a $1 lottery scratch off. I rarely ever do lottery stuff, so that was way cool. Too bad I lost most of that on the disappearing egg purchase.
I didn't do much else on my to do list. I got sidetracked on a project dealing with my email addresses. And during that project, I got sidetracked at EMusic.com and ended up getting a subscription for a month. I had some tunes that I got there quite a while back with a free trial. I'd lost the MP3s, so I wanted to download them again. Turns out I had to subscribe again to download them. It wouldn't count against my monthly downloads, and I figured I could find 40 more songs to download for $10. I got some great tunes from Mother Jane and Tanya Donnelly, and I stilll have 24 more songs I can download.
It's back to work tomorrow...

Dream Journal - My song on TV and a Run to Safety [09/06/04]
I went into the bathroom to take a shower. I was supposedly at my grandma's house. The light in the bathtub/shower was burnt out. I don't know why I was concerned about changing the light bulb because it was plenty bright in there. I think my dad was helping me. I got a step stool to put in the tub, but when I stepped in there, I found I could reach the light without it. I was standing in mid-calf high water.
Later I was listening to the radio. It was still early morning. I was looking at the Ampcast chat, but I wasn't in there (something I can't do in real life). People were saying not-so-nice things about me.
I had the TV on. It was showing an American Idol type program except with older singers. There was a lady from Atlanta singing. I had seen the first show, but quit watching when the lady from Atlanta came on because she was supposed to sing country music, and I wasn't in the mood. I didn't know if this was a repeat of the first show or another one. After her first song, she announced that she was going to sing a song by Kim Novak. I was so excited. I wanted to record it, but I knew by the time I found a tape I could record on and got it going, she'd be done. I don't know why I didn't have TiVo. Later in the dream I thought that I should check TiVo to see if that episode was coming on again.
As she was singing, I had to think about whether the song was really mine. I do so many collaborations that some people think a song is mine when it isn't. But she was singing "You Rescue Me," and that one is all mine. Yay!
Later I was in a car, I think, and we were driving across a long bridge. I think there was some major disaster imminent, but I don't know if it was flood or nuclear war or what. Then I was running with my supervisor along ramps and stairs. We got to where we were going, and he met up with his family. There were lots of people there. A little later, he was making whatever arrangements needed to be made for staying where we were, and I was hoping he was including me in with his family. I didn't expect he would, though, and I don't know why I even thought of it.
My coworker Jonathan was there, and he was asking people questions. He asked me how many people I was dating. I told him only one, and that wasn't even really a true dating situation. He asked me who it was, but I wouldn't tell him.

Someone brought up issues about getting paid, but I hadn't registered my songs with ASCAP, so I wouldn't get paid. I was also telling them about the people in the chat room speaking ill of me. One person I told was an old time Ampcaster, and he said it was just a whole new crowd there these days.
Sitting in a dining room area, I opened a can of salmon. I dumped it out onto a napkin and was trying to pick out the bones. People were watching me. I don't think it was supposed to have bones, but I knew it did anyway. The salmon was a dirty transparent white color. I got up to get a fork. When I got back, several people had taken a share of the salmon. It didn't make me mad. It was easy to pick out the bones in what I had left, though.

A Little Camera [09/05/04]
I don't want a cell phone. I've considered getting one for a couple reasons, though... emergency phone calls and taking pictures. I do need one for emergency phone calls, but I know shopping for a cell phone that I'll (hopefully) never use will most certainly be a nightmare. All that calling plan stuff makes my head spin even when I'm not shopping for one.
I don't *need* one for taking pictures, but that makes it enticing. Having a tiny camera that I can carry around would be fun. I've also considered getting a PDA that takes pictures, but I don't think I'd use a PDA.
So when I saw something similar to this little camera over at So Very Posh, I was pretty excited. I ordered it yesterday. Of course, it means the emergency cell phone is not nearly as enticing, and I won't be prepared if I do have an emergency. But at least I'll be able to take pictures.

I've got stuff to do this weekend, but it's mostly stuff I've had to do for a while that I just don't get done. Here's the rundown (mostly for my own reference as I make my way through the weekend):

Dream Journal - Lou Holtz, My Laptop and a Choir [09/03/04]
I was at somebody's house. I went outside and they had a long backyard. I was outside the fence at the back of the house and yard. I saw a monkey-like creature that kinda looked like Zoboomafoo. Then I saw a smaller creature hanging on the fence. It looked kinda like a baby Wombat.
Later... Inside the house, I was sitting with Lou Holtz. We were looking at something on my laptop. I was sitting on his left side scratching his back with my right hand. It wasn't a sexual thing, and I was thinking how cool it was to have a friend that I could have contact like that without it being sexual.
Later again... I had lost my laptop, and we were looking for it. Lou noticed one under a pillow. I pulled it out and opened it. I seemed smaller than I remembered. I saw other things that seemed different and finally decided it wasn't my laptop. We kept looking. I found it in the kitchen. A lady was watching a movie on it and eating breakfast. She smiled a lot. Then I remembered she was watching a movie with it the night before.
I was walking Lily in a complex of townhouses. Some little girls were walking with us. Lily was out kinda far on the lead, and she turned into an alley. When I turned the corner, I panicked because there was a big dog between me and her and a big dog beyond her. There was a lady walking them, too. I started talking to the dog closest to me hoping it would keep it calm. I was so afraid they would pounce on Lily. The lady said I was doing a great job.
Then there was stuff about some choir that had been put together. Some of my friends were in it, but I didn't know anything about it. I wondered why I hadn't been invited, but it was a fleeting wonder. I wasn't really concerned. I think I was at the choir performance later, or maybe it was some other presentation or speech. Then later I was looking at it on my laptop. I found myself in the audience. I noticed that it was one of those times when I felt like crying and my face scrunched up. Then the camera focused in on me. I think the camera person or producer or whoever thought the presentation was so touching it was making me cry, but really it was just me starting to cry like I do sometimes.
Later, I was with my friends who were in the choir. One of them, Pam (who is really someone I work with now), was acting like she felt bad I wasn't in the choir. She told me she knew why I wasn't invited, but she wasn't sure she wanted to tell me. Before, I wasn't concerned, but since she kept bringing it up, I was curious. I thought it probably had to do with an independent artist promoter I know... that he had somehow kept me out. She said it was because the Indian leader of the choir wasn't sure my spiritual beliefs would fit in. I thought that was odd because I don't really have spiritual beliefs. So I thought either the indie promoter lied about me to the Indian leader, or that not having spiritual beliefs was the problem.

Just Some Stuff [09/02/04]
- I saved $600 on my car insurance by switching to Geico. Seriously. My car insurance skyrocketed about 6 months after my accident two years ago. I was hoping it would go down this renewal period. Nope... it went up! So I called Geico, and they hooked me up. When I called my old insurance to tell them not to renew, they checked to see if they could beat it (or at least match it). Nope... not even close. She said it was due to go down again *next* renewal period. Too bad. Yay, Geico!
I got a GREAT CD in the mail today... Henry Morgan and the High Grass Boys. It's my friends Frank Cotolo and Splash (Larry Michelich), but I don't want you to think I'm just pushing my friends' CD. It's great folk rocky stuff!! And it's way professional... Adam Kittle did the mastering.
I got the previously mentioned CD at CDBaby. That place rocks so much! The last three times I ordered a CD there, I got two CDs (the one I ordered and a surprise free one of CDBaby's choosing). All three free CDs are awesome, too. Somehow, they just *knew* what kind of music I like. This time I got Digby Wallace's Sweet Talk.- I sold out of my Rose and Blows' "Long Road Home" CD at CDBaby this week. I sent them the last 5 "Long Road Home" CDs that they'll ever get. I also sent them some more Raspberry Silk "Inner Voices" CDs because I put them into the $5 CD sale. I don't have that many of the Raspberry Silk CDs, either. I'm so not motivated to get more CDs made. I guess I should. If you're interested, the Raspberry Silk CD is in Soft Rock and the Rose and Blows CD is in Love Songs. I'd give you direct URLs, but for the $5 sale, you have to browse and you have to buy 3 $5 CDs.
- I got an awesome dessert at Starbucks today. I think it's called apple harvest torte. Oh man... if you like cinnamon apple stuff, get to Starbucks and get one. I'm getting another one tomorrow. Yum!
