Juggle Ball Mishap [04/30/04]
[General Goofiness]
I told Bruce at work that I wanted to write in my blog, but I couldn't think of anything to write about. So he asked me if I ever blogged about when he hit me in the eye with a juggle ball. So you are reading it here first... Bruce hit me in the eye with a juggle ball. Not on purpose. I was juggling, and he reached out to grab one of the balls out of the air. He hit different ball, and it flew into my eye. He felt bad. It didn't hurt, but I should have played it up. I was too shocked to think about taking advantage. heh!
Birthday Recap [04/29/04]
[What I Did Today]
I had a nice birthday yesterday. Thanks to everyone who sent me birthday wishes!!
First thing I did yesterday was to weigh, and to my surprise, I was at my lowest weight yet. That was cool, but I figured it was fleeting because, being my birthday and all, my diet was out the window for the day.
I treated myself to Starbucks first thing... Decaf Grande Nonfat with Whip Caramel Machiatto and a Dulce de Leche Cheesecake bar. Yummy!
When I got to work, the three guys on my cubicle row serenaded me with a tentative happy birthday song.
I had a few cards on my desk, too. My friend Norma brought me a card, and it had a beautiful pair of earrings in it. You can kinda see one of them in my webcam pic today. The interesting thing about this is...
I rarely change my earrings. I have a pair of diamond earrings that my mom gave me when I turned 16 or 21 (can't remember exactly). I always leave those in. Not because I don't want to change them, but because I'm real lazy.
The interesting thing was that yesterday morning, I wanted to change my earrings. But when I looked at all my other earrings, nothing struck my fancy, and I left the diamonds in. But then, what do you know... I got cool new earrings for my birthday, so I got to change them anyway!
Then a guy in my section, Jesse, said he wanted to take me to lunch. He invited everyone in my section and a few others that I requested be on the invitation list. We picked up another guy I didn't know on the way, too. Jesse's girlfriend showed up a little later.
I had tortilla soup and rice. Not bad, but not on my low carb diet. Then I had Tres Leches cake. Yummy. There was a candle on the cake, so I got to make a wish. I made it a good one. Same wish I always make that never comes true, though. Still... it's fun.
After everyone pitched in for the bill, they decided they had $3 too much and gave it to me to get lotto tickets. My friend Kelly went to 7-11 to buy them. I didn't win anything, but it was nice to dream about it for a while.
I asked friends, Kelly and Michael, for suggestions on take-out for my birthday dinner. Kelly won with her suggestion... a gyro! So I went to Milto's for a gyro and Windmill Cake. Windmill Cake is more fudge and cream than cake. Pure decadence!
I got a card in the mail from my Aunt Mary with a check. Yay! I sorely needed a check because I've been spending way too much money lately.
I spent the evening in the Ampcast chat room where they sang Happy Birthday in the key of F lead by the incomparable Andy VanDuyne.
So, all in all, it was a nice birthday. An odd thing is... after all that decadent food... I lost another pound. Yay!

My site hit 100,000 visits this week. That's a hinky number because I haven't had this same counter all along, and I didn't have it on as many pages as I did at one time, but let's just go with it, kay?
Anyway... the 100,000th visit was someone searching for "weed plants," and it brought them to this page. I was hoping it would be one of my friends so I could fly them in and throw them a huge party with booze or donuts or sushi or whatever else the friend wanted. But alas... I just got someone searching for "weed plants." Oh well... maybe when it hits 200,000.

Recording "Raining in Baltimore" [04/26/04]
[Music - Mine]
Yesterday, I began recording "Raining in Baltimore" originally done by Counting Crows. There's a line in it that says something like, "I can always hear a freight train \ if I listen real hard." So here's something really cool... after I hit record and just before I did the first strum on the guitar, a train whistle blew in the distance. The recorder caught it, but only faintly. I'm going to do my very best to leave that in.
It's lunch time right now... I'm having a big salad. Same thing I have most days. Blech. They didn't have anything on the cafeteria line that was low carb diet friendly. All I can think about, though, is getting home and recording some more.
I finished the rhythm guitar, vocals and bass. I used my new Tacoma acoustic, too, and I think it sounds really good. Now I need to add a little bit of texture. I might try my hand at a lead guitar part, but I've never been too good at that. I might also try some keyboard stuff, but I used a capo on the guitar, so I made all the chords turn into weird ones where I'd have to hit a lot of black keys. Doesn't matter, though... I'll get something going.
Recording yesterday makes me want to do a whole CD by myself. As much as I love doing collaborations, I've been wanting to do a bunch of songs by myself for ages. I can't afford to do a bunch of cover songs, though. Maybe I can resurrect one or two of my older songs and write a few new ones.
mmKay... better finish up my big salad and get back to work...

[What's Going On?]
Sunday weigh-in: PZ -12 LW -1 (lost 12 pounds total, lost 1 pound since last week)
I'm back to my lowest Sunday weight before I spent that week a while back cheating like crazy. Yay!
Today is all about grocery shopping and making music. Before I get started on that, though, I need to empty the dishwasher, make some lunch and take Lily for a walk... seems like there's always a whole list of things to do before I can start on my list of things to do!!
Happy Sunday!!!
Rest in Peace Pat Tillman [04/23/04]
[Sports]
Back in 1996, I started watching college football with a passion. My favorite team that year was Arizona State University. Pat Tillman was one of my favorite players. He was a safety. I remember fondly his hair streaming out from under his helmet. He went on to play for the Arizona Cardinals.
He died in Afghanistan last night. He was 27 years old. He walked away from millions of dollars to go fight for our world to be free from terrorism. Now... I don't want to get into the politics of war. This is about a man who went to do what he believed was right. He volunteered. And he died.
Rest in Peace.

Jaw Dropping American Idol [04/22/04]
[Movies and TV]
I am so disappointed in American Idol this week. I got to submit a vote for the first time this season. Usually, I don't watch it until the next day when voting is over. And the contestant I voted for got kicked off.
It was an unbelievable results show, and showed that American Idol is so unpredictable. How the hell were LaToya, Fantasia and Jennifer the bottom three?? When they revealed them as the bottom three, I really wanted LaToya to be kicked off. When Ryan sent her to safety, I was completely shocked. Oddly enough, though, I was hoping Fantasia would stay safe even though I voted for Jennifer. I just never expected Fantasia to be down so low!!
On another note... I thought Barry Manilow was soooo awesome this week. He helped the contestants pick songs that would work with their style and really brought out the best in most of them.
Sheesh... I'm almost afraid to watch next week. 'course... I will.

What's on Wednesday? [04/21/04]
[What's on [blank]?]
What's on my keychain right now? The main keychain has two things attached (besides keys). A green lizard with red polka dots and a purple springy bracelet. That way, if I don't have pockets, I can wear my keys on my wrist. I got it at the Arizona Zoo when I was there last August. Yay!
I also have a thing I got over 20 years ago that connects my car keys to my other keys. I can disconnect them, so if I just want to take my house keys, I don't have to lug around my car key and remote. It was a promotional item from one of the plumbing vendors who worked with the company where I worked. It says "Amfac" on it.
The keys are: mailbox, desk at work, garage, house and car.
Cover Songs CD Swap [04/20/04]
[Music]
Kymberlie of The Neurotic Fishbowl is having another CD Swap. This time the theme is cover songs! Woo-Hoo! The rules are here.
I participated in a swap a summer or two ago, and it was a lot of fun. First,] it's fun to put a CD together. Then it's fun when the CDs start rolling in!
If I have time, maybe I'll record a cover song myself to put on the CD.
Bud's Glass and Finger Eleven [04/19/04]
[Friends | Music]
My friend bud bennett sent me a stained glass piece quite a while ago. I took a picture shortly after, but the blog post about it fell through the cracks. It's no reflection on my appreciation, though!!! I'm thrilled to have a bud bennett creation hanging in my dining room window!! Isn't it beautiful?
Thanks, budly!! Bud makes the most beautiful stained glass. He also takes great photographs. Most recently, he took photos of Tibetan Monks making a mandala. Please check out his journal to see pictures of glass and the mandala building monks.
I got two Finger Eleven CDs in the mail today. I saw Finger Eleven open for Fuel and Creed back in August of '98. Man... that was an awesome show!! I loved all three bands!! That was one of my front row concerts. I'd never heard of Finger Eleven before that show, and I was completely blown away.
I bought their first CD, but I haven't kept up. Mainly because they don't play them much on the radio. I've heard one song lately, though, and it reminded me to go look for their music on iTunes. No luck!! It just asked me if I meant "Finger leben" which I think means finger love in a half-assed German kinda way. Ummm.. no.. I'm not looking for finger love.
Anyway... I had to resort to the old fashioned way of getting the music. Well... the most recent old fashioned way. I had to buy their other CDs! So anyway... back to my point. I got two Finger Eleven CDs in the mail today!! Yay!!!
Dream Journal - Student Union Event [04/18/04]
[Dream Journal]
I was at a college. I don't think I was a student, but I might have been. At the student union, they were having an event over a weekend. I was supposed to perform a song. There was a theme, but I don't know what it was.
In one part of the dream, I was outside walking in a parking lot. There was a staircase with about 5 steps leading down from the parking lot to the sidewalk. There were strings across the bottom of the staircase like it was blocked off, but I bent down and went between the strings.
As part of the event, there was a giant pink paper snake. Think of a pink feather boa, but this one was made of paper, about a foot in diameter and probably 50 feet long. It was back in a storage area on the ground. I was looking at it and thought I might be able to make it move by magic. I concentrated really hard and put my hands out like I was casting a spell. One end of the snake rose in the air. I made it go back down on the ground and tried again. It worked a second time, too.
I was walking around the tables where people could eat. One table had a couple slices of pizza on it, but no one sitting in front of the pizza. There was a couple at the table eating different pizza slices. I accidently knocked the abandoned pizza slices off the table. Then the guy who belonged to the pizza slices showed up. The guy who was part of the couple said something negative like the other guy couldn't have anymore pizza. But I said that I would buy him some more. I asked him where he got it and what kind it was. He told me, but the ingredients were really complicated. I asked if he would go with me to order it. But I had to go get my purse because I didn't have money on me. I felt bad.
Then Saturday came. I got to the event early because I didn't know when I was supposed to perform. I looked at the list of performers. It didn't have times, but the girl said that where my name was on the list, I probably wouldn't perform until Sunday. I realized I hadn't even practiced and didn't have my song memorized. I was thinking maybe I would bring my music stand and have the lyrics and chords where I could read them. I didn't think it would matter because it seemed like a really informal event.
Sunday Weigh-in [04/18/04]
[What's Going On?]
Sunday weigh-in: PZ -11 LW -1 (lost 11 pounds total, lost 1 pound since last week)
The weekend has flown by. I hate that. Yesterday, I got up and cooked some breakfast. Then I took a long walk in my neighborhood. When I left the house, it was cloudy and a little dark, and I thought I might get rained on. But as I got farther from my house, it got brighter until the sun was shining on me. Then as I started coming back closer to my house, it got darker again. I guess the darkness was over my house. heh!
I recorded vocals for a song yesterday and some talking for a couple of Ampcast radio show shoutouts. I put the shoutouts together today. One for is TommyGoober's new show, Vortex Radio, and one is for Robby and Karen's show, Radio RKOhhh! Shoutouts are fun!
Today I cleaned my bathroom real good, did some laundry and went grocery shopping. Typical Sunday stuff. Now I need to pick up some of this clutter and run the vacuum. Lily's shedding for the summer!
I got a new webcam this week. It's better than my old one, but I'm struggling to get it just right. My perfectionism is driving me nutso!! There are soooo many variables that I can't get my head around what to do to make it less grainy. There's lighting and focus and a multitude of controls in the software. Ugh. I need to let it go and just be happy with it the way it is.

Dream Journal - Out of Town [04/17/04]
[Dream Journal]
I was on a trip at a hotel. I was with a couple of people. One was a lady I work with, Norma. I don't know who the other was. I went out to my car and was waiting on those two to come out. The parking lot had a good view of downtown. I don't know what city it was. I got my camera out even though I knew it was one of those times where my camera wouldn't be able to capture what I was seeing well. One reason is that there were ruins of a building close to the parking lot between me and downtown. A building made with big white bricks that had been torn down. Or maybe they were just building them. I knew the camera would catch those as the focal point and lose downtown.
The moon was casting a bright light on the side of some of the buildings downtown. Brighter than a moon really could. It was extremely cool looking.
Norma and the other person came out, and we got in the car. We had 3 more nights at the hotel, and I suggested we could check out tomorrow morning, go to another city overnight, then come back and check in again for the last night. We decided that was too much trouble.
I started driving and asked where we were going. The person I didn't know said, "College Station." I said, "College Station! Why?!!" The person just said that yes... we were going to College Station and that I should take the next exit.
I took the next exit, but then the dream changed and we were on bicycles. We were riding on a wide, well-lit trail. But the trail started narrowing and getting darker. I stopped and said I didn't want to go further. We turned around and started riding back, but then we came upon a couple riding up the trail. I asked where it led. The girl said a pretty name of a mountain that I can't remember. She said it had a great view. After they left, I said I would go after all, but I think the other person was put out with me, and we didn't go.

- What do you do for a living? webmistress, java programmer, supervisor in training
- What do you like most about your job? We get a lot of holidays off. heh! My favorite part of the work, though, is web site maintenance.
- What do you like least about your job? When people won't respect other people's roles. Specifically, when people who are not web administrators decide to take it upon themselves to redesign things on our website. I wish they would understand that design is our job, not theirs.
- When you have a bad day at work it's usually because _____... I'm tired and people keep interrupting me.
- What other career(s) are you interested in? I don't want a different career, but I would like a job where I'm just a web gardener. You know... fixing broken links and making sure everything is up to date. Just the tedious day-to-day stuff that makes a website great. Leave all the project management stuff to other people.

[What's Going On?]
Sunday weigh-in: PZ -10 LW +2 (lost 10 pounds total, GAINED 2 pounds since last week)
Gaining two pounds over the last week isn't a surprise. I was a bad girl. There was a dulce de leche cheesecake bar, chicken tenders, french fries with ranch dressing, fudge pie, and a pitcher of margaritas. Ugh. But I'm back on my diet now.
I might go buy a guitar today that I fell in love with on Friday when I dropped off my little bass to get fixed. It's raining, though, and that really discourages me from going out. We'll see... if I get it, I'll post a picture.
And it looks like my all-time favorite blogger has arisen from the dead. Yay!!
Dream Journal - Mick and a Malicious Machine [04/11/04]
[Dream Journal]
I can't remember most of what happened in the first part of the dream, but my friend Mick OD was there. He was real cool and mysterious as I know him to be.
Later in the dream, I was at an old house. I was investigating something, I think. I was with another girl and guy. Neither one was anyone from my real life. We were in another city in the Northeast part of the country. The guy lived in that city, but I was traveling with the girl. When we were done, and it was time to leave, I realized I was really sad to leave the guy because I figured I'd never see him again. I also figured he'd just say bye and that would be the end of that. But he looked sad, too. So I wanted to give him my email address. He wanted that, too.
The girl went to sit in the car and wait for me. There were some business cards on display outside and some pens. So I got one of the cards and turned it over to the blank side and started writing my email address. But then I realized I was writing an old address that I never check. So I crossed it out and started writing another one. I was having a real hard time writing it correctly. I had to use several of the business cards.
Then I got one written and handed it to him. I looked at it just as he did. I noticed I had added some weird codes in the middle that (in the dream world) programmers add to email addresses to validate them. The guy knew exactly what it meant. But I took the card and scratched out the extra stuff. He was standing right next to me. I looked at him and leaned in like I was going to kiss him. Our noses were touching, but I didn't complete the kiss. I just looked in his eyes for a few seconds and pulled away.
I finally went to the car and knew the girl was going to be ticked off that I took so long. I was hoping when we got to the next place, she wouldn't give me a hard time if I wanted to check my email.
Then the dream changed and I was driving and my Dad was in the passenger seat. I could see downtown Seattle in the distance. I wondered how I had gotten all the way across the country that quickly. I said, "See the Space Needle?" My Dad looked, but then it went behind another building so he couldn't see it.
We got to the address where we were going, and realized it was a Wells Fargo Bank. The same one we had been to on a prior trip.
Later, I was back at the house where I was doing the investigation. Neither the girl or guy was there, though. I was in the front yard. The street I was on ended close by where you had to turn right or left on a street that curved away in both directions. There were houses on that street and a train track behind those houses and more houses behind the track.
There was a storm. A train was going by on the tracks. Then the houses behind the train tracks started moving like they were on a lazy susan. I thought that was weird because I thought when it stopped, those people's houses would be in a different spot. I saw people in one of the yards and thought they were thinking "Here we go again... where will we end up."
Then the clouds opened and a machine came down. It was glowing a light blue color. I knew it was bad, so I started to run away. I was in a bath robe. I decided not to run away, but to crawl under the porch of the house and hide. The machine didn't sense me. It went up the ramp to the porch and knocked on the door. At this point, the girl from before was back in the dream. She came to the door, and asked who was there. She didn't get a satisfactory answer, so she didn't open it. I was relieved.
It started going down the ramp, and I think it sensed me. So I came out from under the ramp and knocked it over before it could do anything to me. I ran up to the door, and knocked for them to let me in. I got in, but the machine was right there behind me. I had to struggle to get the door closed, and I couldn't get it locked. I had a skeleton key, and I turned it, but the door still wasn't locked. I got the girl to help, but then realized the door was broken and even after we got the lock to turn, the door wasn't secured.
Then the machine was gone and there was a man and a woman in black suits and sunglasses with guns.
I think I gave up and sat down cross legged on the floor to let whatever was going to happen happen.
There was so much more that happened in this dream of which I can only get a bare sense. Like the stuff at the very beginning with Mick. I really wish I could remember more. This is the first dream I've had in a long time of which I can remember a good chunk.

Guitars and Panties and Baby Powder [04/09/04]
[What's Going On?]
I just got back from running errands. I took my baby Ashbory bass to South Austin Music to get it fixed. It has a short in it. It'll be cool when it's fixed because then I can sit and listen to the Ampcast radio shows and play bass along with the music.
I also went to Walmart. I needed to buy some panties and baby powder. The baby powder is for the strings on my Ashbory bass. One of them snapped the other night because I haven't been taking good care to keep the strings powdered.
Of course, I usually can't go to Walmart and walk out with only the things I went in for. Today I ended up with a table fan for my bedroom, toothpaste, two necklaces, and some makeup. It wasn't a painful trip like Walmart usually is. I guess because it's Friday and many people have to work.
I've got lots to do the rest of the day. I need to clean my kitchen, work on my website, update the Strange Sandwich Music site, and update the jukebox on the Freeaudioplayer bulletin board.
I also need a nap, and I'd love to catch up on some of my TV shows. It's a good thing it's a three day weekend. Waddya wanna bet I don't get it all done, though...
Mostly American Idol with other stuff sprinkled in [04/08/04]
[Just Some Stuff | Movies and TV]
- American Idol: I know Camille had to go, but I sure wish either of the Johns had been voted off first. I know one of these weeks Camille would have gotten a song that fit her style, and she would have really shined.
- I've been juggling at work lately. Literally. I'm a three ball juggler. I took my juggle balls home, and I'm going to start juggling in the evenings. It's not *great* exercise, but it's movement and that's always a good thing.
- American Idol: I think about the way the voting works a lot. I wonder how different things would be if we voted someone off instead of voting for our favorite. I never get to vote anyway, because I usually have too much going on Tuesday evenings to see the show in real time. But if I could have voted someone off, I would have voted John Peter Lewis (JPL) off. He's cute and all, but I can't imagine watching him do more than one song in one sitting.
- American Idol: If I'd had time to vote for my favorite, it probably would have been Fantasia. I didn't like her at first, but now I think she's the coolest of the bunch.

- Joan of Arcadia: Do you think the whole Adam/Jane(joan) romance will start stinking up the series now that Adam left Iris for Jane(joan)? I hope not... I live vicariously through those two.
- American Idol: Do you think there's really any chance Simon and Paula would get married? Do you think Randy ever feels like a third wheel?
- I found out that if I skip GrapeNuts in the morning, I'm more likely to cheat on my diet during the day. Go Go GrapeNuts!!
- American Idol: Redheaded John should have sung "Daniel." He sounded really good during that awful montage thing they did on that terribly LONG results show last night. John needs to go, but I love when he sings the sweet tender songs like that.
- I usually don't like daylight savings time, but I've been enjoying it on the days that the weather is good. I got home from work the other day, and it was still so bright that I got to see the rainbows on my walls and ceiling. And as much as I hate getting up before the sun, I got to see a whole bunch of stars this morning when Lily took me for a walk.

- American Idol: Another thing I think about when I think about the voting... I wonder how people's votes swing when their favorite gets voted off. Who will the Camille voters vote for next week? Some might not vote anymore, but others will choose a new favorite. That's one of the things that makes this show so dynamic and interesting.

Secret Lovers [04/02/04]
[Ponderings]
I was thinking about all the people I've dated over the years, and I realized something. For the majority of those relationships, we had to be discreet for one reason or another. Either we worked together and wanted to keep things quiet or we were trying to avoid awkward situations or spare ex-lovers feelings. For example, my third boyfriend was the roommate of my second ex-boyfriend. That was awkward!
My first two boyfriends were out in the open, but the following five were discreet. There's something out of whack about that. Why can't I find someone to date where I can say... "Hey World!! I'm dating this man!!"?
Maybe that's one reason I'm a bit screwed up regarding relationships. The out in the open relationships I had were in college... you know... the kind that are mostly sex, drugs and rock n roll. So I guess I've never really had a full on healthy out in the open relationship.
