Yay! Blog! v1.0
Category: Just Some Stuff

Just some stuff [12/29/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some stuff...
  • Are you a geek with too much time on your hands? I've got an assignment for you. Please please please.... make a "Now Listening" blog plugin that works with iTunes for Windows. I would be so very happy! (If I had one right now, it would say I was listening to "Adrift" by Mollycoddle)
  • I think my new blog layout is ready to roll. My need for instant gratification tells me to let her rip, but my need to keep things ultra organized tells me to wait and start the first post on January 1. Grrrr.... competing compulsions!
  • Lilydawg stayed home all by herself today while I was at work. She was so good! Nothing was out of place, and I didn't find any wet spots on the carpet. Yay!
  • I sent out exactly zero Christmas cards this year. So if you didn't get one, don't feel singled out or anything.
  • I finished off the fudge I made last week. To fill the void, tomorrow I'll make Magic Cookie Bars.
  • I'm watching the Alamo Bowl. It's the first bowl game I've watched this year. I don't know what's wrong with me. I'll definitely be watching the Longhorns in the Holiday Bowl tomorrow night, though. Hook 'em!!

Just some stuff [09/16/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some stuff...
  • I will be so happy when this gosh darn daylight savings time is over. Getting up when it's still dark should be illegal.
  • I'm not going to post a list of what's on my TiVo this week. I didn't record anything new.
  • There's a new TV show starting Thursday night called "Threat Matrix." It has the Mr. Lyle actor from "The Pretender" in it. I predict that I'll love it. I also predict it won't last the whole season before they figure out I love it and cancel it.
  • Diet Rite Cola is great! Now if I could only find the other flavors somewhere in Austin. C'mon grocery stores... stock up!

Just some things (I like on my diet) [08/15/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Here are some things I like on my low carb diet:
  • Barbecue chicken dipped in ranch dressing (I can't have barbecue sauce)
  • Atkins Endulge chocolate bars and peanut butter cups
  • Chicken casserole with cream cheese, sour cream and cheddar cheese
  • Steak fried in butter
  • Pork rinds and cream cheese
  • Brisket (dipped in Ranch dressing if it's dry)
  • Scrambled Eggs
  • Sugar Free Jello
  • A glass of cold water first thing in the morning
  • Scrambled Eggs
  • Salad with either ranch dressing or raspberry vinegrette and oil dressing.
  • Fresca!
I'll never diet the low fat way again. I'm -14 pounds and counting. smile

Just some things... [07/22/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some things:
  • I lost 6 pounds since Thursday on my low carb diet.
  • The word "troop" is kinda weird. Or maybe it's just the way reporters use it. A troop is a group of soldiers, boy scouts, girl scouts, and really any other people if they choose to call their group a troop. So "troops" would be multiple groups of people. But if a couple of soldiers are killed, it is reported that 2 troops were killed. But they never say 1 troop was killed. That would mean a whole bunch of soldiers. In this case, I guess, 1 troop is more people than 2 troops. Pretty counterintuitive if you ask me.
  • Pork rinds with cream cheese. Mmmmmmmm.
  • Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day! Yay!
  • "If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain & bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself." --Max Ehrmann
  • There are no Diet Root Beers or Diet RC Colas in the building where I work. At least, I haven't found any.
  • Hamburgers at the Texas Capitol are a little better than hamburgers in the William B. Travis Building. But both are much better than hamburgers in the LBJ Building.
  • My nose tickles.

Dear Amanda Peterson Blog Owner [06/09/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some things I want to tell gmd over at the Amanda Peterson blog, but can't because the comments are being flaky...
  • My friend went to Philadelphia and accidently ended up in New Jersey. He had to pay to get back to Pennsylvania. I guess once you're in New Jersey, Pennsylvania tries to discourage you from coming back or something.
  • I feel sorry for the child of the shoe killer and dead guy. Also... if that lady was charged with possession of a deadly weapon, wouldn't all women with spiked heels have to be charged now?
  • I think crumbs is a great name. But it *is* more fun to say... COOKIES!
  • I realize you can't see this at work because it's June. That really sucks.
  • Can you tell me what time the midnight movie starts?

Baseball Stuff [05/15/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some things that are (sort of) baseball related:
  • I'm not a fan of baseball.
  • The last game I saw in person was a Texas Rangers game at the Ballpark at Arlington. I think they were playing Seattle. Nolan Ryan threw out the first pitch. They were having some kind of celebration in his honor.
  • My mom used to LOVE baseball. She was sad one year when baseball went on strike. I think it's so stoopid when sports go on strike.
  • I have that Ricky Williams baseball card where he's doing the Heisman pose.
  • I'm glad they changed the name of Enron Field, but Minute Maid Park sounds kinda goofy. I guess I miss the days when stadiums didn't have the names of companies.
  • When Lily's barking, I tell her, "Lily! There's no barking in baseball!"

Just Some Stuff [05/04/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some things...
  • Today I backed up a bunch of files from my computer. My CD writer keeps messing up. Everytime it does, it ruins the CD. I burned 8 CDs worth of files. That's great. happy My CD drive ruined 6 CDs. That's not great. tongue
  • At Kevin's suggestion, I watched most of the "Nashville Star" marathon today. I almost didn't get through the first one because I couldn't deal with all that country music. But I stuck it out, and I'm glad I did. Once they got it narrowed down to 12 artists, it was fun. Wow... those people are so talented. It really surprised me when Travis and Jamey were voted off. They were fun. But I'm proud of the Texans who are doing so well. smile
  • I've been doing great on my quest to make myself a better person or whatever. I've lost 4 pounds so far. And my sink has stayed shiny for days. I also cleaned out a couple of drawers and put a bunch of stuff in bags to give to charity.
  • I feel so much happier having my computer in the living room. I was feeling smothered spending all my time in the bedroom. I can see the TV now. I can listen to music on the big stereo. I can see out the window. Life is good. smile
  • Since I moved the TiVo into the living room, I'm not as inclined to watch TV when I go to bed. So I've been reading again. Yay!
  • I took a bunch of pictures of wildflowers in Lily's walking field again this weekend. I don't know what I'm going to do this time next year. There won't be any flowers left that I don't have pictures of already. I might have to spread my wings and take pictures of other things. laugh
  • It's time for bed. Goodnight, y'all!

I took pictures today... [02/10/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Some things:
  • I took pictures today. Whew. I was getting close to running out of pictures for my picture blog.
  • I've reduced the dosage of Lily's separation anxiety medicine. She's been more active. She's funny. I hope I can cope with a hyper pooch. smile
  • 1Sound.com has started doing their radio shows. I'll like it better when it's genre specific, but it's still cool as it is now. They're saying we can make our own 1 hour shows and submit them. I'm thinking about doing one.
  • I'm going to bed now. Sweet dreams, blog readers. smile

The sackers at my grocery... [02/01/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Another edition of "Just Some Things":
  • The sackers at my grocery stores never put the toilet paper in a bag. I'd understand this if the toilet paper package had a handle built in, but it doesn't. Must be a policy not to put toilet paper in bags.
  • I found some chocolate chip cookie dough with caramel. So each cookie is supposed to have caramel in the middle. Like filling. I can't wait to try them.
  • The weather was great here today. I even wore short sleeves outside. Woo-Hoo!
  • I want to tweak my blog template just a little. But everytime I really consider doing it, I get an overwhelming sense of dread. Blog templates are so very sensitive.
  • I must be getting hard up for things to take pictures of for my picture blog. Today I took pictures of weeds in my backyard.
  • My dog is laying on the bed with her head under the pillow. Maybe she doesn't like this show.
Update: Those chocolate chip cookies with the caramel in the middle weren't that great. They were okay, but I would prefer chocolate chip cookies without the caramel. It made the cookies kinda soggy and took away from the great chocolate chip cookie flavor. Just my opinion, though.

I didn't have any nose bleeds... [01/25/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some more stuff:
  • I didn't have any nose bleeds today, so maybe the humidifier helped.
  • I had a bad day today. Maybe I'm pre-menstrual. I don't know. But it was awful. I had a hard time dragging myself out of bed. It was misty outside all day, too. Every stoopid little thing made me cry. I hate days like this.
  • I made spaghetti for dinner. It didn't make me cry. It was great.
  • I also baked some chocolate chip cookies from pre-made dough. It's Nestle Toll House dough in a flat rectangular package from that section of the store where the Pillsbury dough boy hangs out. I really love pre-made dough. Sometimes I eat it raw.
  • I missed the postman today. He rang the doorbell when I had just gotten out of the shower. I think he was trying to deliver the Raspberry Silk CDs I had made at Discalliance. I didn't have time to get dressed and get to the door. So now I have to wait until Monday. Phooey.
  • I'm going to bed now. Goodnight blog readers. smile

It's cold and the heat... [01/24/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some stuff:
  • It's cold and the heat pumping into my house and my workplace is causing my hands to crack and my nose to bleed. That's another reason I don't like winter, but I never remember it until it happens. So next summer when I say I'd rather it be 100 degrees than winter and someone asks why, maybe I'll remember to tell them about the cracked hands and the nosebleeds.
  • I got a cool humidifier for Christmas that I fired up tonight. Maybe that will help the nose bleeds.
  • I like lotion on the backs of my hands. It helps the cracking. I don't like lotion on the palms of my hands. But to get the lotion on the backs of my hands, I have to get it on the palms of my hands. So then I try to wash the lotion off the palms of my hands, but not the backs of my hands. But the backs of my hands get wet. Then I need to dry them, but I don't want to wipe off the lotion, and I don't want lotion on my towel. Dang... what a delicate operation it is to put on lotion.
  • I had 4 pillsbury crescent rolls and some cheesy mashed potatoes for dinner.
  • I've got a Brita water filter pitcher, and the water I filtered with it tastes great. *slurp*
  • I'm going to record a vocal this weekend if this tickle in my throat doesn't get worse. Maybe the humidifier will help with that, too.
  • The lotion I use is Sun-Ripened Raspberry from Bath and Body Works. It smells soooooo good!
  • I feel real good tonight. I hope it lasts through the weekend. Last weekend was a long one, and I felt awful all weekend. So here's to a super weekend! happy

Just some things: Lily has a boydogfriend [12/22/02]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some things:
  • Lily has a boydogfriend name Pancho. Ooo La La!
  • Venus is still very bright in the sky. I took a picture. I'll post it in my picture blog tomorrow.
  • I got a TiVo Video Recorder, and it's awesome. Only thing is... I record a bunch of stuff, and then I feel pressure to watch them. But I never had time to watch much TV before, so it's putting a bigger squeeze on my time. I'll get used to it, though. The benefits far outweigh the psychological problems it's causing me (I feel so bad deleting something I recorded without watching it! But sometimes I gotta make room for something else). The biggest benefit is being able to pause live TV when something interrupts. Or rewinding and watching a football play in slow motion while it continues to record the rest of the game. Dang... that's almost heaven!
  • I'm actually thinking about my retirement situation. You know... making sure that I'll have an annuity when it comes time? Makes me feel all responsible and stuff. smile

Things on my mind this morning [10/28/02]

[Just Some Stuff | Sports]

Some things I was thinking about this morning:
  • I've decided to support Chris Simms (UT Quarterback). Up until now, I've not really backed him like I should. Last year there was a quarterback controversy between him and Major Applewhite, and it was natural to pick one over the other. But this year there isn't a controversy. I need to let it go. He's our man, and it's gotta be tough trying to do well knowing some of the fans don't like him. Go Chris!
  • If you're going to leave your desk, take your cell phone with you. No one wants to hear it ringing over and over even if it has a groovy cool ring·tone. (This is not a "note to self." I don't even own a cell phone).
  • I'm not a Dallas Cowboy fan, but Emmitt Smith is a class act. I just happened to turn on the TV right before he broke that pro football rushing record. It was an emotional moment. It reminded me of when Ricky Williams broke the NCAA rushing record. Yay, Emmitt!

Some things I was thinking about [10/24/02]

[Just Some Stuff]

I always think of lots of things to blog about when I'm driving to work. Then I get to work and I have to work and stuff. By the time my break rolls around, I've forgotten the details I wanted to blog about. *sigh*

I remember some things from this morning, though:
  • one time i went through a drive thru and tried to order a small drink. the fast food person said they didn't have small drinks. they only had medium, large, extra large and jumbo. how can they have a medium drink without a small? couldn't the medium have been small, the large: medium, the extra large: large, and the jumbo: extra large? oh yeah.. and these go to 11.
  • i remember when there was a drink size called "regular."
  • if you've been drinking water all day nonstop at work and at quitting time you have only a very slight urge to pee, go ahead and pee before you leave work to drive home. you won't regret it.
