Something weird and cool happened over the last 24 hours. I was watching the beginning of The Professional last night. I didn't watch all of it, so I won't be doing a movie blog entry, but maybe in the future. Anyway...

I saw Gary Oldman, and that reminded me of a guy who used to come to the training classes I taught three years ago. We called him Little Gary because he looked like Gary Oldman except smaller and without all the weirdness. I tried to think of the guy's real name, but couldn't. So I put it out of my mind.

Then today when I was picking up Lily from play day, I heard someone leaving a message on their answering machine. He said, "Hello, this is [firstname] [lastname]." (Name withheld to protect the innocent). It was him! The funny thing is that if I hadn't thought of him last night, I'm almost certain I wouldn't have recognized his name when I heard it on the answering machine.

I just love it when that stuff happens.

Overheard while walking my dog, Lily:

Girl says to Boy:
"You can use *your* couch as the casting couch! Mine is black."

This is Ralphy. He's Boogaboo's pet dragon. Sometimes when Boogaboo and I would have some hot tea, I would squeeze some lime in my tea and give the lime peels to Ralphy. Ralphy loves lime peels! Then Ralphy learned how to make tea from the lime peels. Now sometimes Ralphy will make me some lime peel tea. Yummy!

Ralphy is a green dragon. I found out what color my inner dragon is. See:

I took the Inner Dragon online quiz and found out I am a Blue Dragon on the inside. If there ever was a draconic example of a supple attitude, my Inner Dragon is it. Blues are the Water Elemental dragon - typified by their Steam breath weapon. Pretty creative, huh? It goes right along with my Inner Dragon's tendency to maim, but not destroy. Much like my native oceans and rivers will deform the rock over time, eventually wearing it away to nothing.

Humans shouldn't make the mistake of thinking I'm weak, however. After all I'm a good 30 feet in length and have a penchant for materializing out of any body of water, no matter how small. I also enjoy communicating with aquatic life-forms, hunting in totally inhospitable terrain (i.e. 3000 feet below the waves), and using my fluid nature to my advantage. My enemies probably won't even see me approach in the first place. My favorable attributes are the sunset, Autumn, water, compassion, intuition, and calmness. Naturally, I pity the fool who'd try and prove that calmness part, he'd probably wind up being scalded. *small grin*

So from a blue dragon to a green dragon... Cheers, Ralphy!

I'm jealous of my next door neighbor. He has a new back door. I know it sounds kooky, but my duplex doesn't have a back door. His didn't either until this week. If I want to go into the back yard, I have to go out the front door, around the side and through the gate. No small feat since my gate is all screwy and won't open all the way.

Or I can go through the dining room window. That's what I usually do. That's where I should have a back door. Waaaaaah! I want a back door!

The elected official I work for got married this weekend. It's a cool story. I heard it's supposed to be on CNN tonight. I'm not sure why it's national news, but that's pretty neat anyway. Here's an excerpt from an article about her inauguration that I read today:

The comptroller also announced her marriage to Ed Strayhorn of Austin, the founder and president of the oldest tennis court construction business in Texas. Strayhorn met the then Carole Keeton when they both were on the Texas high school tennis circuit. They both attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he saved his money to buy her a diamond ring and proposed. Ms. Keeton's parents refused to sanction the marriage because of her youth, after which Strayhorn joined the army for three years before returning for his degree.

This weekend ­- 45 years after that original proposal - Strayhorn gave her the original ring that he had been saving all these years as they got married in her home before their children and grandchildren.

I wish Mrs. Strayhorn all the best!

Here's a weird tidbit of trivia. The referee at the Fiesta Bowl is Randy Christal. He also works in the staff development section where I work . I took one class from him there. He's a great guy, but I hated the class. It was a class based on the book "Who Moved My Cheese?" That's the biggest pile of corporate propaganda crap I've ever experienced in my life. The main message is a good one... people need to deal with change better... go with the flow instead of shutting down and fighting it all the time. But it should be advice from a friend or a psychologist, not the corporation that is making the dreaded changes. Anyway... Randy's a cool guy, and it's always a fun surprise to see him officiating a football game.

Oddly enough... another referree I see doing college football sometimes is Jon Bible. He taught me Business Law when I was in college. I wonder if being an instructor is a prerequisite for officiating sports.
