Wendy's [10/29/03]

[Food]

The last three times I've gone to Wendy's, I've noticed something funny. After they take my money and tell me to go to the next window, they always say, "See you tomorrow." haha I don't go there enough for them to recognize me. Besides... a different person has said it each time. I guess it's kind of a not so subliminal subliminal message?

Apple Pie [10/26/03]

[Food]

I baked this!

Apple Pie

Thank you, Sara Lee!

Acorn Squash [10/18/03]

[Food]

Acorn SquashI bought an acorn squash. I've never cooked squash before. I hope I don't screw it up. But then... what are the consequences if I do? I'll just fix something else to eat.

I cut it in half and scooped out the seeds. I placed it cut side down in a little water in a baking dish, and now it's baking at 350 for 45 minutes. When I take it out, I'll put butter and brown sugar in the scooped out part. Yum! I hope...

Cheesecake Factory [09/04/03]

[Food]

Bad news for my diet, but good news for my food addiction...

There *is* a Cheesecake Factory in Austin!

I should have known... it's in the shopping center where the fabulous people shop.

No steenkin' rules! [08/25/03]

[Food]

Kevin made a new rule for my blog. No more food posts. But we don't need no steenkin' rules... ha!

There's a birthday at my office today, so people brought food. Usually that's a bad thing, me being on a diet and all. But today, some low carb conscious people brought food that I can eat!

Deviled Eggs
Jalapeno Cheese Squares (egg, cheese, onion and jalapenos)

Talk to ya later... I've got some chowin' down to do! happy

Durn... two spoons [07/14/03]

[Food]

Ack! I went across the street for some food to go and when I got back to my desk to eat it, I discovered I got two spoons instead of a spoon and a fork. So I'm eating fried boneless chicken breast, green beans and mashed potatoes with a spoon. After that, I'll eat some chocolate cake with a spoon. I always feel like a little kid when I eat with a spoon. But at least it's not a spork. I always stab myself with those things.

White Chocolate Candy Bars [06/28/03]

[Food]

Yummy Yum! Look what I found. White chocolate versions of Kit Kat and Reeses. They're good if you're in a white chocolate kind of mood.

Friday Five - Food and Cooking [05/16/03]

[Food | Memes - Friday Five]

friday five
1. What drinking water do you prefer -- tap, bottle, purifier, etc.? I like Ozarka spring water at work. At home I drink tap water that's been put through a Brita water filter. 2. What are your favorite flavor of chips? If there's dip, I like salted tortilla chips or Fritos. I like both baked and fried Cheetos, too.

3. Of all the things you can cook, what dish do you like the most? Maybe Chicken Kiev. I haven't made it in years, though.

4. How do you have your eggs? Hard fried.

5. Who was the last person who cooked you a meal? How did it turn out? My friend made some beef and potato salad. It was great.

Cooking Instructions [04/10/03]

[Food]

I had a frozen Four Cheese Red Baron Deep Dish Single pizza for dinner. I cooked it before I ate it, of course. I had to. The instructions said... "COOKING INSTRUCTIONS: Cook before eating. CONVENTIONAL OVEN: Preheat oven to...."

I'm so glad I read the instructions.

Yuck!! Ice Cream Issues [04/02/03]

[Food]

I really hate chocolate syrup on ice cream. Blech!!!!!!!!! sick

I have issues with ice cream in general. I despise ice cream socials. And homemade ice cream is good for nothing except instant brain freeze. I also don't like scooping ice cream for other people. I don't mind going to Baskin Robbins or Marble Slab or wherever and having someone scoop ice cream for me. But I don't want to work there. And if I go to the freezer to fix myself a bowl of ice cream, please (*please*) don't ask me to scoop you out some, too. Okay? Please? Ick.

Ever feel irrational anger over something that should never ever inspire anger? It's so stoopid that you baffle yourself? That's what happens to me in this conversation:
Friend: Hey... wanna come over this weekend?
Kim: Well... I've got a lot of work to do. I don't think I'll have time. Thanks, though.
Friend: But we're going to make ice cream.
Kim: No, thanks.
Friend: Aw.. c'mon... it's homemade vanilla ice cream!
Kim: Ick. No, really, thanks... I don't like vanilla ice cream. (I purposefully *don't* say that I don't like homemade because people just · can't · understand · that.)
Friend: Ah... but we have chocolate syrup!
Kim: mad
As soon as the friend mentions chocolate syrup, such a strong feeling of anger rushes over me that I want to punch a wall. Irrational, I know.

Just don't ask me if I want any homemade ice cream with chocolate syrup. Ick.

I probably shouldn't have posted this. It's an ugly side of me. But I guess that's what bloggin's all aboot (as my Canuck friends would say).

Super Human Feat Attempt [03/18/03]

[Food | Shaping Up]

And for today's super human trick: I will attempt to eat an orange for my afternoon snack instead of a Three Muskateers.

The Breakfast Struggle [03/13/03]

[Food]

StarbucksOn the mornings that I go to work, I experience a great struggle. Do I stop at Starbucks for an Iced Venti Nonfat with Whip Mocha and a pastry? Or do I go through the Taco Cabana drive thru for two breakfast tacos and a Coke?

The intense craving is for the Mocha, but I know that eating a pastry for breakfast will make me feel bad because of the sugar high. There's nothing else to eat at Starbucks that I like that doesn't have sugar.

tacocabana.jpgBut I know I'll feel much better if I eat the tacos. And I love the tacos. It's just that the Mocha craving is overpowering.

Another issue is that if I go to Starbucks, I have to park and go in. The parking lot is usually bustling, so I have to try not to get run over, too. The drive thru taco option is much better. Especially on rainy days.

But there's that ever present Mocha craving. ohwell

A few times, I've gone through the drive thru for two tacos and then to Starbucks for the Mocha. Best of both worlds. But that's the most expensive option in terms of money and time.

Darn you, Starbucks, for your deliciously bitter chocolately Mocha drink. And thank you... sometimes the thought of that Mocha is what gets me up in the morning. smile

Cake Layers... Yum [03/10/03]

[Food]

Back in the early 80's, Sara Lee came out with frozen cake layers. They were unfrosted round frozen layers of cake that you could frost yourself while they were still frozen. Then you'd wait for a little while, and it would be ready to eat. Does anyone remember those things? I thought they were so awesome. I liked to get the chocolate cake layers and frost them with sour cream white frosting. That's one my favorite kinds of cake, by the way. Chocolate cake with sour cream white frosting. You know... in case you're planning to bake me a cake for my birthday or something.

Anyway... does anyone else remember those Sara Lee cake layers?

This or That - Lunch [03/04/03]

[Food | Memes - This or That]

1. Soup or salad? Depends on the type of soup. I love French Onion with cheese melted on top, but that's usually not an option when they ask "soup or salad." I will say that I would rather have a good soup than a salad, though.

2. Hot or cold sandwiches? Either one, really. I like places that heat the cheese and bun. Like Schlotzky's Deli.

3. White or whole wheat bread (or rye, etc)? Definitely white. Sourdough is great.

4. Pack a lunch for work/school, or buy it? I always buy it unless I'm on a diet. I just don't have the time to fix a lunch in the morning, and I don't like using the fridge here at work. Something about community refrigerators makes me a little wary.

5. If you eat out...fast-food chain, or mom and pop type place? Either one.

6. Tuna or chicken salad? I prefer chicken salad, but only if it's all white meat. Tuna salad is okay, though. But make it white albacore. Not because of the dolphin controversy so much, but because it tastes better.

7. Cheese: Swiss or cheddar (or American, etc)? I prefer cheddar and provolone, but it depends on what I'm eating with it.

8. Mustard or mayo? Probably mayo, but mustard is good with corny dogs.

9. Sandwiches: wrap/pita pocket, or regular bread/roll? Depends on the quality of the pita bread. It's all about quality, man. smile

10. Sweet stuff: cookie/cake or fresh fruit? Gimme cookies and cake! happy

This or That - Breakfast [02/11/03]

[Food | Memes - This or That]

1. Bacon or sausage? Bacon. Incidentally... I just had a BLT. happy

2. Eggs: scrambled or not? Either scrambled or hard boiled. I like to put mild picante sauce or ketchup on my scrambled eggs. I also like omelets or migas. And there was a restaurant I used to go to that had scrambled eggs with cheese and chili on top. That was good.

3. French toast or regular toast? Both! French toast with real butter, powdered sugar and syrup. Dang.. that'll clog your arteries! I also like regular toast with real butter. Especially sourdough toast with real butter. Yummy! But don't give me any wheat toast. Blech!

4. Pancakes or waffles? Either. Chocolate chip pancakes or belgian waffles with strawberries and whipped cream! Or waffles with real butter and some syrup would be okay if getting fancy was out of the question.

5. Muffins or bagels? Both! Cream cheese muffins and bagels with cream cheese. hah! Gotta have the cream cheese!

6. Coffee or tea? Both! But if there's not plenty of half and half to put in the coffee, I'll pass. And if it's flavored coffee... ick.. that gives me a headache. Just plain old coffee with a lot of half and half and some sweet and low. Or a Grande Nonfat With Whip Mocha from Starbucks. Yummy!

7. Juice: orange or grapefruit? I'd prefer grape, but out of those two it would just depend on how I felt that morning.

8. Hot or cold cereal? Cold, definitely.

9. To put in cereal: bananas or strawberries (or some other fruit)? I don't like to put fruit in my cereal, but I'd like to have some strawberries on the side. I'm not a big fan of bananas even though I will eat one occasionally. Especially if I have the stomach flu.

10. Eat breakfast at home or at a restaurant? Either, but I won't get up early to go to a restaurant. If they stop serving breakfast at 11:00 on the weekend, it's not going to happen.

Friday Five - Food [02/07/03]

[Food | Memes - Friday Five]

friday five
1. What did you have for breakfast this morning? I went to Starbucks for a grande nonfat with whip mocha and a cinnamon twist. I felt like treating myself to some bittersweet chocolatey goodness since it's Friday, and the Raspberry Silk CD is available for sale. happy

2. What's your favorite cereal? I have lots of favorites:
  • Quaker Sweet Crunch (it used to be called Quisp!)
  • Cap'n Crunch with Crunchberries (it makes my teeth hurt, though)
  • Grape Nuts
  • Frosted Mini-Wheats
  • Cocoa Crispies (they were better before they made them "new and improved a few years ago)
  • Life
3. How often do you eat out? Do you want that to change? I eat out every workday at lunch. I usually just go to the cafeteria in my building or at the state capitol. I don't eat out too much for dinner, and when I do it's usually fast food. I'd like to go out to nice restaurants more, but I'm anti-social and don't really like to go to nice restaurants by myself (kind of a paradox, eh?). 4. What do you plan on having for dinner tonight? Got a recipe for that? Not sure. Maybe bbq pork on a grilled kaiser roll. I like that K.C. Masterpiece shredded bbq pork that you can buy in the store. The shredded beef is good, too. The shredded chicken is a bit bland.

5. What's your favorite restaurant? Why? Dang. It's hard to pick a favorite. I like Romeo's Italian Restaurant. They have the best chocolate cheesecake ever. I love their chicken marsala with fettucine alfredo, too. And because I don't want to pick one favorite, I'll pick Hut's Hamburgers, too. I like to get the Tuby's Tickler. It's a hamburger with chili, cheese and jalapenos. I also like to get french fries and onion rings.

I feel much better... [02/03/03]

[About Me | Food]

I feel much better at work when I have two potato and egg tacos and a coke for breakfast than when I have a grande nonfat with whip mocha and a pastry.

Rats! No Girl Scout Cookies For Me! [01/21/03]

[Food]

Rats! Last Saturday, I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to buy a couple of lamps. Here's one. There isn't a picture of the other one on their site.

But that's not what this is about. It's about girl scout cookies. There were cute girl scouts in front of Bed, Bath and Beyond selling cookies. Normally, I would buy some thin mints, caramel delites and peanut butter sandwiches. But I was under the impression that my supervisor would be selling them for his little girl at work. He sits two cubicles away from me, so I knew I'd better save up my money and my calorie allotment. But no go!! No cookies!! I don't know why... I haven't asked. But word is he's not selling them this year. Waaaahhhh! I hope someone else is selling them at work because I doubt I'll get out again before they stop selling them.

Update: I found a lady at work who was selling them. Whew!

Happy Sunday! Mocha! [01/19/03]

[Food]

Happy Sunday! Would you like a mocha with some chocolate whipped cream on top?

Mmmm... food [10/21/02]

[Food]

I have a can of Pretzel Party Mix. It has peanuts, sesame sticks, poppy seed sticks and pretzel sticks (lotsa sticks!). But I've been eating so much crap lately, and I seem to have a little willpower today, so I'm not going to eat any of it. And I plan to drink water instead of Red Fusion or Coke. Not only do I plan to drink water, but I plan to drink a lot of water. And I won't get a candy bar this afternoon. I declare this afternoon to be candy bar free. No telling what will happen when I get home, though. I have Fritos Scoops and Ranch Dip there. What on earth got into me buying that stuff? Mmmm... fritos and ranch dip. happy

Chik-Fil-A Yum! [08/25/02]

[Food]

Chik-Fil-A CowMy friend Dawn was asking me about Chik-Fil-A. I think they have great iced tea. You can get sweetened or unsweetened (my preference). I think it's so good because it's cold even before they pour it into the cup with ice. Very refreshing!

They also have great chicken sandwiches and nuggets. Better than those "parts is parts" style chicken sandwiches at other fast food chains. Oh! And the waffle fries! YUM!! I've even gone there to get breakfast... little chicken biscuit sandwiches! And they sponsor the Peach Bowl (yay football!). My only complaints are that they aren't open on Sunday and there isn't one very near my house. Boo-Hoo! Maybe they don't have them where Dawn lives, but I hope they get them soon!

My apologies to the vegetarians out there... but I love a good chicken sandwich!

I Made Thai Food [04/25/02]

[Food]

Thai FoodI made Thai food this week. It was so good... it was like a drug. And thank goodness for prepless produce. You know... where the store prepares the produce for you before you buy it. I bought a stir fry veggie package with water chestnuts, bean sprouts, bok choy, snow peas and cilantro. I also bought some Pad Thai noodles. Those are noodles made from rice... imagine that! The way you cook Pad Thai noodles is to boil the water, take it off the burner, then add the noodles and let them soak until they are... get this... firm, yet soft. That's what the instructions said... firm, yet soft. I also got some Thai seasoning sauce. Stir fried it all together with some pork. Awesome stuff! happy
