I got one last walk in around downtown Tempe. I went into Borders Books and Music. I almost bought a book, but decided I already have enough books that I haven't read yet. I wanted to buy a CD, but I didn't see anything appealing. The 2004 calendars are already on sale. I would have gotten a penguin calendar if they had one.

This morning, I was going to sleep in, but I think I'm still on Texas time, so I got up shortly after 7:00 a.m. That would be 9:00 a.m. Texas time.
It worked this time!! In the first picture, I'm taking a picture of the webcam. In the second, I'm just standing there smiling at the camera. It's too small to see my smile, but I promise I am!

I had a friend once who kinda got me interested in The Refreshments and then said something mean to me which I took with me to Seattle where I fell in love with Husky Stadium. I saw the Refreshments a bunch of times after that, forgot about the mean friend, and fell in love with the Refreshments. The Refreshments are from Tempe.
I used to watch golf with my Dad and brother, and I saw Phil Mikelson who I could have sworn was Jake Plummer's brother or uncle or something, but it turns out he's no relation except that he went to school at Arizona State University. In Tempe.
Alrighty... the belly is happy, so I need to write down the stuff I did today before it becomes more of a blur. This is a really long entry since I didn't have a chance to post between every little activity.
Observations about my hotel:
This morning, I headed for the Phoenix Zoo. I got to see the largest rodents in the world called Capybaras. I also saw my favorite... Meerkats! They weren't very active, but they were sooo cute. I wish they were nice, and I could have one for a pet. That reminds me... when I was at the San Diego Zoo a few years ago, a girl was bending over the meerkat wall and letting her long blond hair hang down. A meerkat was playing with her hair. I was afraid it was going to latch on, crawl up and attack her face.
A kinda bad thing happened as I was walking out of The Cheesecake Factory... one of the lenses from my sunglasses fell out. That's not an uncommon occurence, but this time the little screw fell out, too, so I couldn't mend it. I don't have my little glasses screwdriver with me, either. Boo Hoo. The good news (I thought) was that I was already in a shopping center. The bad news was that it was the Biltmore Fashion Park where the fabulous (and rich) people shop. So I didn't buy new ones yet. The good news is that at that time the sun was overhead, so driving wasn't that much of a problem sans sunglasses.
I woke up a few times last night and felt very nervous and sick to my stomach. Luckily, I was able to get back to sleep quickly. I felt the same way the night before. I wonder if I'm suppressing something that's making me nervous. I feel okay during the day.
I liked Math and Accounting.
I just got back from dinner at The Blue Agave. I am soooo stuffed. I had the Chimichanga filled with filet mignon. I also had an El Toro margarita. It had El Tesoro Tequila, Cointreau and the great raspberry liqueur, Chambord. I don't drink much because it just makes me sleepy, but I love the taste of a good raspberry margarita.
I finally wore myself out. Dang... I walked all over the ASU campus. One thing I noticed a lot of that didn't happen when I was in college was cell phone talking. I guess college kids have a lot to talk about. So much that they can't walk from one class to the other without calling their friends.
I did a kinda dumb thing. I walked over to the art museum on the ASU campus (which is about 6 blocks away), but I didn't take my walking tour map with me. So after I finished looking at the exhibits, I had to come back to the hotel to get the map. And to make things worse, when I got back to the hotel, housekeeping was in my room, so I waited until they were finished. No biggie. I'll get my map and walk back to ASU in a little bit.
I want to get back out there and take pictures. I'll walk by it again, though, and make note of the exact time this time. If you see a girl in a sleeveless blue shirt and black shorts, that might be me. hehehehehe
Mission Accomplished! I think I've mentioned before that I want to visit every state capitol building in the U.S. and take a picture. Today I'm one capitol closer to that goal. The Arizona state capitol building is a museum now. They do the state business stuff in other buildings surrounding the capitol. There are four floors with different types of exhibits on each floor.
Breakfast this morning consisted of eggs, bacon and match stick potatoes. I call them shoestring potatoes. My belly is happy, and I'm about ready to start out for the day. I'm a little nervous to drive a strange car in a strange city. But I have a mission... the main purpose for my trip, so to speak. More on that later.
I'm getting so sleepy. My watch says 8:00 p.m., but my body clock says 10:00. That's my bedtime, normally. I think I'll crawl into that big fluffy bed and read a while. Big plans for tomorrow!
The first thing on my sightseeing list is Arizona State University. It's right down the street from my hotel. I have a map of the campus that shows where I can find artwork, so I started hunting for them. I found 4 of them before I decided I needed to get some food. I found a Quiznos Subs and got a big ol' sammich.
When the plane landed, I found myself in Phoenix, Arizona! Woo-Hoo! I got my rental car. It's a blue chevy cavalier which is like a mix between my current car (blue honda civic) and my prior car (green pontiac sunfire). I'm amazed how much the cavaliers look like the sunfires on the inside now.
I'm on the plane! The take off was pretty smooth. The coolest part... I saw my house from the air! Some of the houses on my street look like they have blue roofs. Right now, all I see is green and brown land. We've got another 1.5 hours before we land. I'm not having trouble going off my diet now. I just ate some peanuts, and I've got some Ritz Air Crisps for later. I'm drinking a Coke, too. This is the first caffeine I've had in over 6 weeks. I hope I don't start bouncing off the walls.
Here I sit in the Barbara Jordan terminal of the Austin-Bergstrom Airport. I've been here quite a while I got here way way WAY early, as I was very nervous about going through security. Not that I thought they would strip search me or anything... I just haven't gone through security since they tightened things up and I was nervous I would do something stupid. I got through it fine, though.

[Reading]
The Talisman I finally finished re-reading The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub the other night. I read it the first time several years ago. The weird thing is that I barely remembered any of it. I thought I remembered stuff, but that stuff didn't happen in it. Plus most of the stuff that did happen was completely new to me. I remember when I read it before, I decided it was one of my favorite King books. But this time, I wasn't very impressed.

We were just good friends.
All of a sudden, he let go of my hand, said "Yuck!", and shook his hand like he was shaking water off of it. He said he didn't like my fingernails. He said the first time he saw me, he noticed how awful my fingernails were.

)
I've never liked dark meat chicken, but I didn't want two hamburger patties, so I went for a leg/thigh combination. Much to my surprise, it was better than any breast I'd ever had from over there. Wow! Greasy goodness! (I love this low carb dieting - hehe).
That means I have to get it replaced. And more than likely, that means I'll lose all that I've recorded on it, all my wishlists, all my season passes, etc. I'll have to start from scratch. At least I'll finally be caught up.
Before I bundle it up, I'll write an extended "What's on TiVo?" blog entry that includes all the movies waiting to be watched, all the season passes and all the wishlist items. Then when I get the replacement, I'll know how to set it up again.
I guess if TiVo crapping out is my only problem at home, I should still consider life to be [at this point the TiVo guy answered the phone]...
I was going to say I should still consider life to be great! And it is. Anyway...
If the powercycle thing doesn't work, then I need to call them back tomorrow to get information on how to exchange it. Damn... I hope it works. I have soooo many movies all saved up to watch.
Boo Hoo.
