Dream Journal - Moving with Mom [06/28/03]
[Dream Journal]
Another recurring theme in my dreams is my Mom doing stuff without asking for my input. And me feeling like I have no control over my surroundings. It's a very desperate feeling, and I exhibit a lot of anger. I don't know that I ever have nice dreams about my Mom. I wish I would. She died in 1994. I think I have nice dreams about my Dad, though.
I was going home from work or school. I lived with my parents in the house I lived in up until 7th grade. I got to my street, but there was a traffic jam. I got on a tricycle and rode it almost home. I decided to take the tricycle back and walk home.
I saw a little girl and she said it was her tricycle. I said I had borrowed it, and I hoped that was okay, but I was taking it back now anyway. She said it was okay. She was real nice. I decided she was too little to know that it wasn't okay for me to take her trike without permission. I didn't want her to be mad at me, but I started to explain to her that it really wasn't okay for me to take it.
I got home and my mom was there. She asked me, "Do you want to go home?" We were moving, and I knew she was referring to our new house. But it made me mad because I realized that meant they moved my stuff while I wasn't home. I had been deprived of setting up my own room.
We went to the new house and my mom and dad were on the ground floor. This house isn't the same house we moved to in real life. But it was real nice on the ground floor. I was a little afraid to go up to my room, but I started to go up there. The staircase was long and straight. It was so narrow that the rails touched my hips. There was a high ceiling, and I was thinking they had to carry boxes and things about shoulder height to get them up there.
I got to my room. First thing I saw was that she had bought new linens and a comforter for my king sized bed. But it made me mad because she didn't ask for my input. She had made the room look like she wanted it without asking how I wanted it to look. I noticed the room was oddly shaped... like a distorted triangle. There were dark wooden cabinets, bookcases and counters all around the walls. There was a twin sized bed coming out of the cabinet space on one side of the room. The beds took up most of the floor space.
Then I noticed the TV. It was a really old TV that I had when I was a kid. It was so old, it didn't have a remote. I had a nice big TV in my old room. It really made me mad that I didn't have my nice TV. I picked up the little TV and started to rip all the wires out of it. It had a lot because it wasn't cable ready and my dad had rigged it up to access the cable. As I picked it up, it changed into a smaller black and white TV. Once I detached the wires, I was going to throw it, but I don't think I did.
I went downstairs and started yelling at my mom. "Where is my big TV?!!!" She didn't answer at first. Then she said, "It went really fast." Meaning she had sold it. I was fuming!!!! I started crying and yelling in the dream. I even woke myself up crying and yelling in my sleep, but went right back to sleep.
The dream went on. I never went back in my room, but there was other stuff going on. There was stuff about sending mail. And I think we went to other people's houses for something, too.
My Love Hate Relationship with Tim Burton [06/27/03]
[Movies]
I have a Love/Hate relationship with Tim Burton. Well... I don't really have any kind of "relationship" with Tim Burton, but every movie he's done, I either love or hate. Let's review...
Pee Wee's Big Adventure - Loved it!!!! OMG!!! hahahahahaha!!! The first time I saw it, I laughed about Large Marge for days!!!
Beetlejuice - Hated it!!!!! I really can't look at Michael Keeton in this. Ugh. And when he kisses Geena Davis... I admit that I liked the scene with the witch doctor and the shrunken headed guy, though.
Batman - Hated it!!! I can't deal with Jack Nicholson's over the top villains. I can't stand to watch The Shining, either.
Edward Scissorhands - Loved it so much!!! What a beautiful fairy tale.
Batman Returns - Hated it!!! As much as I love penguins, Danny DeVito was unbearable. Ugh!!!
Mars Attacks! - Hated it!!! Awful. I know lots of people like this style of movie, but I don't. Gak!
Planet of the Apes - Loved it!!! Gotta watch it again. Soon.
The Nightmare Before Christmas - Hated it!! I had such high hopes for this one. I don't even remember why I didn't like it, but it boils down to a big ICK!
I haven't seen Frankenweenie, Ed Wood, or Sleepy Hollow, but I'm going to try them out in hopes they will fall into the "Loved it!" category. A guy I work with loaned me Ed Wood, so I'll find out this weekend if it's a winner.
Burton is remaking Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As with everything else he's done, he could make it into something incredibly wonderful or something that will make me cringe. I'm looking forward to finding out.

[Anti-Procrastination]
It's another Anti-Procrastination Day!
I have a couple of old computers that I need to dispose of. First I need to format the hard drives. Then I need to find out where the City of Austin computer disposal place is. I guess I'll work on the oldest one first. It's over 10 years old. No telling what I'll find when I boot it up!
What are you procrastinating?
Angry! [06/25/03]
[Just Griping]
I am sooo pissed off. I had to go get a new smiley to adequately portray how pissed off I am:
My (ex)favorite morning radio show (who will not get any promo out of this from me) revealed major spoilers for the new Harry Potter book. I knew I'd end up getting spoilers before I read it given that I'm waiting for the paperback, but the thing that makes me oh so very angry is that they did it just to be mean. They gave spoilers to intentionally spoil the book for those who haven't finished it yet.
The impression I got is that they have issues with adults reading a children's book. I don't really consider the Harry Potter books to be children's books, but whatever.
One of the people even made a comment that if you're an adult and haven't finished the book in five days, you have even more problems. As if slow readers are idiots who deserve to have the book spoiled. I can guarantee if I had bought the book at midnight Friday night, I'd still be reading it. I'm a slow reader.
One guy called up to complain, and they berated him for it. One of the deejays said it was their duty to bring idiots like him to the attention of the other listeners.
This is just unbelievable to me. They've always been very sensitive to their listeners. Maybe their ratings are so low that they have to resort to insulting tactics to get more listeners. I dunno. Maybe they will get more listeners. But not before they lose one of their faithful... me.
Past Coworker from Hell [06/24/03]
[Human Observation]
A few years ago we got a new admin person in our office. My friend Keely and I were training her. After she had been there a couple of weeks, we noticed that she wasn't filing something she needed to file. Or maybe she was filing it incorrectly.
Anyway... we explained to her that she was supposed to file this stuff and how to do it correctly. She got mad at us because we hadn't told her before. It went something like this....
Us: These need to be filed in this drawer.
She: No one told me that before.
Us: That's okay... don't worry about it. They need to be filed weekly.
She: How was I supposed to know that?
Us: Well... you weren't until someone told you.
She: But no one told me!
Us: That's okay... we're telling you now. Really... it's no big deal.
She: But I don't understand how I was supposed to know that if no one told me!!!
Us: Errrr... we're telling you now.
She: Augh!!! I didn't know I was supposed to file those that way!!!!!
She didn't last very long.
This or That - Surfing [06/24/03]
[Memes - This or That]
1. Surf sites at random, or have a set list of regular reads? I have regular reads, but every so often I like to click the I'm Feeling Lucky blogrolling link to see what I find.
2. Do you visit mostly blogs, or news or other sites? Blogs and message boards. But mostly blogs. I visit news sites when I'm looking for something specific or when a blog has a link to a story that sounds interesting.
3. Do you go online every day, or just a couple of days a week? Every day.
4. Do you allow comments on your blog, or not? Sure. Comment all you like.
5. Do you shop online at all, or at regular stores? Both. Shopping online is so convenient. I wish they would all ship by US Postal Service, though. It's a pain in the butt when they ship by Fed Ex or UPS, and they won't leave it at my door. It's like there's this assumption that every house has someone at home all day. I have to work for a living, ya know?
6. Have you ever done online bill-paying/banking, or not? No. I started to set up an online account with my bank, but they wanted to know the amount of the last deposit I made. At the time, I was selling stuff on Ebay and making several deposits a week. I had no idea what the *last* deposit amount was. So I aborted the account set up process and haven't tried since.
I have an account with a strictly online bank that MP3.com required when they were doing direct deposit. But I don't know how to access it. I don't think there's any money in there anyway. I wish they would send me a statement. Stoopid online banks.
7. Which news site do you prefer... MSNBC.com or CNN.com? Or do you prefer some other one? I like Foxnews.com and CNN.com.
8. Live chat rooms, or message boards? I prefer message boards. Except for one scheduled chat I go to once every two weeks, I could really do without chatting. It makes me tired.
9. Instant messaging or e-mail? I hate instant messaging. HATE it. (Dang... I'm a real negative nellie today )
10. Yes or no: have you ever met, or at least talked on the phone with, another blogger? If not, would you want to? Why or why not? Not another blogger, although it could happen. But I've met a few people who I first met online. I'm not real big on meeting people in person, though.
Dream Journal - Extra Rooms [06/23/03]
[Dream Journal]
A recurring theme in my dreams is that I find extra space in my home. Sometimes it's a secret space. Sometimes it's just a room I never noticed before. Sometimes it's something else. A lot of times, I think it's really cool, but then I find out it belongs to someone else and that ruins it.
Saturday night, I dreamed that the outside of my duplex looked different. It was way cool with a brick exterior and nooks where I could put plants and stuff. Just on the inside was a tiered waterfall with steps going up beside it. At the top, I thought there was probably a jetted whirlpool tub at the top. I didn't go up the stairs, but I got up there by going another way. When I got there, someone I went to high school with (I think it was Anna Baronowski) showed up. Turned out the tub and whirlpool belonged to her.
Last night, I dreamed I moved into a new house. I hadn't really explored it much for about a week. Then I went in the kitchen to do some cooking or something. It was a thin kitchen. Like a hallway with the counters, cabinets and appliances on either side. I looked out one of the doors and noticed another stove top in the room next to it. When I went into that room, it lead to another room I didn't know was there. In there it looked like an office. Then I noticed it was kind of like a store with a store front. I realized it wasn't really part of my house. I followed it around to some other offices and stores. I asked a lady why all this was attached to my house, and she didn't understand why I was asking that. Then I realized it wasn't attached to my house. I don't know how I got there, but I had to go back home through the streets.
When I got home, I realized all the doors were unlocked. I was particularly disturbed that the sliding glass door was unlocked because I realized it had been that way ever since I moved in. Then I thought someone was probably in the house. I saw a shadow on the door to a bedroom. I started growling and saying, "I see you there!"
A man came out. He was a salesman. He got my address because I had cashed in on a mail in rebate. I asked him why he entered my house when I wasn't there, but he wouldn't answer that question. He was real pushy.

Another Treasure from my Storage Room [06/20/03]
[Mine!]
Yesterday was a state holiday, so I got to stay home from work! I went to my UHaul storage room and brought 5 more boxes back to my duplex. I got through all five and sorted the contents into keepers, givers-away, and trash. Most of it was keepers this time.
The most amazing find? A crockpot! I've been wanting to buy a crockpot, but something was holding me back. I didn't realize I already had one! It was my Mom's that I claimed after my Dad died.
I also found the ball that matches the other three balls on my pantry music thing. There was a note with it from my Aunt that said she and my Dad had put the blue one on there because this one fell off and they'd lost it. hah! I'm leaving the blue one on there, though. I think it's cool.
Friday Five - My Hair [06/20/03]
[Memes - Friday Five]
 1. Is your hair naturally curly, wavy, or straight? Long or short? It's naturally wavy. Hair stylists always seem to want to style the wave out of it, though. Bastages. (just kidding). It's just below shoulder length.
2. How has your hair changed over your lifetime? Sometimes it was long. Sometimes it was short. Sometimes it was straight. Sometimes it was permed. Sometimes it was reddish blonde. Sometimes it was jet black. Sometimes it was burgundy (my favorite). Sometimes it's dark blond (like now). Sometimes it was really goofy and ugly. Sometime's it's pretty (like now, I think).
3. How do you normally wear your hair? Always parted on the right side. Lightly blow dried to bring out the wave. Just below shoulder length. Sometimes with a small clip holding back the left side and less often also the right side. Sometimes with a comb holding back the right side.
4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like? I'd get it cut a lot shorter.
5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened? Nothing too bad really. I hated a haircut that my mom made me get when I was little. It was way too short and people thought I was a boy after that. One time I shaved my widow's peak (the point in the center of my forehead). I didn't do it with a purpose... I was just playing with my dad's razor. It wasn't noticeable until it started growing out. Then my mom made fun of me. It was awful. She laughed at me and told other people about it and laughed some more.

My Pantry Music Thing [06/18/03]
[Mine!]
I just got this musical wall hanging out of storage. It was my Mom's. She had it on her pantry door, so everytime we went in the pantry, it would make musical noise. Now it's hanging on my pantry door. I'm not sure why there's one blue ball, but something is tickling my memory that says it came with a ball missing, and my Dad attached the blue one. I'm impressed with his work if that's what happened.

Five Minute Stories - Filter [06/18/03]
[Memes - 5MS]
<5iveminute word="filter">Back when I was a concert going fool, I went to see White Zombie. The opening band was Filter. I got to the concert somewhat early (as I always did). There was already a very long line. We waited. and waited. and waited. Rumors started trickling back through the line... the fire marshall was there and wasn't going to let White Zombie use their pyrotechnics. This was back in 1996. A few months ago, I thought of that White Zombie concert when I heard that people died up North in a fire because another band used pyrotechnics in a club when they weren't supposed to. I silently thanked the fire marshalls for watching out for us that night in Austin. Some of the kids in line were complaining. They wanted to see fire. Like Beavis... Fire Fire Fire! I wonder if those kids remembered that night when they heard of the fire that killed people up North? I doubt it. I'm surprised I remember it.
Filter was good, but I remember the lighting in the venue during their set was strange. It wasn't dark with spotlights. It was just... light. The lighting for White Zombie was better. I liked the show. I didn't like the audience so much, though. I remember people kick boxing. Or maybe they were just kicking each other. I've never understood the thrill of trying to hurt other people. 5iveminute>
It's Anti-Procrastination Day! [06/18/03]
[Anti-Procrastination]
And now for another edition of... Anti-Procrastination Day!!
Tonight, I think I'll do something fun. I edited some of the pictures from my picture blog a while back to make them the right sizes for computer wallpaper. But I still need to build a webpage, so people can grab them.
I've been putting it off in favor of cleaning and decluttering. But today's the day! I'll post a blog entry when I get it done!
I wanna write... [06/17/03]
[What's Going On?]
I wanna write stuff in my blog besides movie things and memes, but there just isn't much going on that's interesting. All I've been doing is decluttering/cleaning house and watching movies.
I had a dream last night, but it's one that's better left unwritten. Something about getting kicked off a project I was working on at work. Not a real project I'm working on at real work, but a made up project I was working on at real work. My Dad was in the dream, too. He wasn't like my real Dad so much, but he was my Dad nevertheless. He had some plates with western theme pictures on them.
When I went through a box I brought back from my storage room this weekend, I found a cool musical wall hanging that my Mom used to keep on her pantry door. So I put it on my pantry door. I'll take a picture of it later.
I also found a folder stuffed with scantron answer sheets to exams I took in college. I tossed those... what the heck was I keeping them for in the first place!
For lunch today, I had meatloaf, skillet fried potatoes and rice with tomato sauce. I also had a Cherry Limeade IBC Soft Drink. Yum!
This or That - Reading [06/17/03]
[Memes - This or That | Reading]
1. Newspapers or magazines? I rarely read either, but I think I'd rather read a current newspaper.
2. Books-on-tape or regular books? Regular.
3. Paperback or hardcover? Paperback.
4. Fiction or non-fiction? Fiction, mostly.
5. Sci-Fi/Fantasy or romance novels? Fantasy.
6. Borrow from library or buy books (either new or used)? I buy them. It takes me way too long to read a book to borrow.
7. Subscribe to magazines or buy on newsstand? I read them at the doctor's office or the oil change place or the hair salon.
8. Current best-sellers or classic literature? Current best-sellers, I guess. They don't have to be best-sellers, though.
9. Read books once, or re-read favorites every so often? I like to re-read favorites every so often.
10. Here in the U.S., we have two hot best-sellers...former First Lady Hillary Clinton's memoirs, and the new Harry Potter book (coming out June 21). If you had to read one, which one...Hillary or Harry? Why? I love Harry Potter books.

My plans for the weekend... [06/13/03]
[Shaping Up]
I'm looking forward to the weekend (starting tonight when I get off work). I'm still on my decluttering/cleaning quest. It's going great. The charity I give to is coming to my house this morning to pick up the aquariums I cleaned on Wednesday, an old suitcase, some crutches and 3-4 garbage bags full of STUFF.
Tonight, I have two missions from the FlyLady group. One is to clean out the silverware drawer. What a cool mission! I bet I can throw or give away some stuff in there, too. The other mission is to go through all my books, and see if there are any I can give away. That's a tough one. I actually started to do that last night before I knew what the mission was. But I love my books so much. I might find some I can part with, though.
Tomorrow, I'm going to my UHaul storage room to bring home 4-5 boxes of STUFF. I did that last weekend and found a bunch to give or throw away. Maybe by the end of July, I'll have the storage room cleared out and won't have to pay the monthly fee anymore. That'll rock!!
I also need to mail some packages tomorrow.
For fun (as if that wasn't enough ), I'm going to watch movies on my TiVo! Woo-Hoo!!
What are you doing this weekend?
Friday Five - Stuff About Me [06/13/03]
[Memes - Friday Five]
 1. What's one thing you've always wanted to do, but never have? I want to travel to every state in the USA plus Washington, DC and take a picture of each of the capitol buildings. I want to take pictures of other stuff along the way, too... like waterfalls and mountains and canyons and more. The kicker is... I want to do it by myself. I want it to be like my trip to Seattle several years ago... no compromises... just doing what I want to do. But I don't have the money or the time. I'm not sure I ever will.
2. When someone asks your opinion about a new haircut/outfit/etc, are you always honest? Always? Probably not, but it really depends on who is asking and how they ask the question. Anyone who asks me, "Do you like my haircut/outfit?" should realize that my opinion is 100% irrelevant unless their haircut or outfit directly affects me or something I'm doing. And how often does that happen? If they ask, "Would you wear this haircut/outfit yourself?", then I will be honest.
3. Have you ever found out something about a friend and then wished you hadn't? What happened? I can't think of anything.
4. If you could live in any fictional world (from a book/movie/game/etc.) which would it be and why? I don't want to live in a fictional world.
5. What's one talent/skill you don't have but always wanted? I wish I could remember lyrics and guitar chords effortlessly. I would enjoy doing music much more.
No Hitters are boring [06/12/03]
[Sports]
The talk of the office this morning is the Astro's no hitter last night. I just don't get it. Baseball is already the most boring sport ever. Yes... even compared to golf, baseball is more boring. But it seems the most exciting thing for some people is to see a game where one of the teams never hits the ball. Huh?
Pitchers who throw no hitters should be banned from the league, not heralded!
Maybe baseball should have bigger bats. Or bigger balls. Or both bigger bats and bigger balls. Whatever it takes so we can prevent these boring no hitter games.
And while they are retooling, would it be possible to make the season shorter? Or maybe start it earlier? Let's try to get it all wrapped up before football season starts.

It's Anti-Procrastination Day! [06/11/03]
[Anti-Procrastination]
It's anti-procrastination day again, folks! I have several aquariums in my garage. I had fish in the early 90's. I can't remember when the last one died, but it was probably around 1996. When that happened, I emptied the water and set the aquariums out in my garage. And there they sit.
So... today I'm going to clean them out and get them ready to donate to charity. Woo-Hoo!! More room in my garage!! Maybe I can park my car in there some day!!
What are you procrastinating this week?
Folk Songs for the Afterlife [06/11/03]
[Music]
Wow! I love Did I Let You Down by Folk Songs for the Afterlife. It's not a folk song. And it has a bad word in it, but not in an angry way. It's one of the best earworms I've been afflicted with in a while. I think my friend Mick OD would like it a lot, too. I suspect it won't be long before I buy their CD, Put Danger Back in Your Life.
This or That - Movies and TV Shows [06/10/03]
[Memes - This or That]
1. "The Munsters" or "The Addams Family"? I don't think I could stand to watch either one now. But I watched "The Munsters" as a kid.
2. "The Sopranos" or the "Godfather" movies? Godfather
3. "The Jetsons" or "Lost in Space"? "Lost in Space." Billy Mumy was my first celebrity crush.
4. "Superman" or "Batman" (either the TV shows or the movies)? Enjoy them... I'll watch something else.
5. "Sex & The City" or "Friends"? I've only seen a small snippet of "Sex & The City." I couldn't get through a whole one. I'll take "Friends."
6. "The Wizard of Oz" or the "Harry Potter" movies? Harry Potter.
7. "The Simpsons" or "King of the Hill"? Both!
8. "Grease" or "Saturday Night Fever"? If I was forced to watch one, it would be "Saturday Night Fever." Of course, if I was being forced to watch one, whoever was forcing me would probably have an even bigger cruel streak and make me watch "Grease." It gives me the willies to think about it. Ugh.
9. Old prime-time soaps: "Dallas" or "Dynasty"? Neither. I liked one called Emerald Point NAS. Of course, they cancelled it after I got addicted. It had Sela Ward, Richard Dean Anderson, and Susan Dey in it.
10. Not very thought-provoking this week...do you prefer TV shows or movies? If I had to give up either one, I would miss it.
Dear Amanda Peterson Blog Owner [06/09/03]
[Just Some Stuff]
Just some things I want to tell gmd over at the Amanda Peterson blog, but can't because the comments are being flaky...
- My friend went to Philadelphia and accidently ended up in New Jersey. He had to pay to get back to Pennsylvania. I guess once you're in New Jersey, Pennsylvania tries to discourage you from coming back or something.
- I feel sorry for the child of the shoe killer and dead guy. Also... if that lady was charged with possession of a deadly weapon, wouldn't all women with spiked heels have to be charged now?
- I think crumbs is a great name. But it *is* more fun to say... COOKIES!
- I realize you can't see this at work because it's June. That really sucks.
- Can you tell me what time the midnight movie starts?

The kind of music I like [06/08/03]

Skipping the Friday Five [06/06/03]
[Shaping Up]
I'm going to skip the Friday Five questions today. I don't feel like getting that personal today.
I took down the Health Log thing where I was tracking my weight, exercise and water intake. My weight has fluctuated, but really hasn't gone down. I don't consider that a failure because I suspect it would have continued to go up if I hadn't made some changes. I've established good routines for drinking water and exercising. I'll continue with those, but I'm concentrating on getting my house decluttered and cleaned. Once I get that done, I'll concentrate on decluttering my body again.
Speaking of decluttering... I've added a link to FlyLady's Declutter Challenge on the main blog page at the top left. It's really kinda fun! Each day, she posts something to declutter for 15 minutes. Today is the bathroom cabinets. So I'll spend 15 minutes in the bathroom going through the cabinet under the sink and throwing out stuff I don't need. If that takes less than 15 minutes, I'll get in the other cabinet and start working on that. Even if I don't get through the whole thing, doing 15 minutes is better than doing none!
I actually look forward to seeing what each day's declutter mission is. I'm not sure if she's going to post missions on the weekends. I hope she does!

It's Anti-Procrastination Day! [06/04/03]
[Anti-Procrastination]
It's Anti-Procrastination Day! I've been avoiding cleaning my dining room window. Actually, I need to clean the window sill... I cleaned the window last week. The sill is real dirty because my dog goes in and out that window to get to the backyard (I don't have a back door!). So I'm going to clean it today!
What are you going to stop procrastinating?
I never could keep a diary [06/03/03]
[About Me]
Christine is publishing her diary from when she was little. It's cute!
I never could keep a diary for very long. I would write stuff in there, then a few weeks later and for whatever reason, I did like reading what I wrote. So to put it all behind me, I'd chunk the diary. What a dork I am. haha
This or That - Animals [06/03/03]
[Memes - This or That]
1. Cats or dogs? Cats AND Dogs. Mullet, Socks, Sneakers, Boots, Buster Brown, Charlie Brown, Mandy and Lily.
2. Butterflies or birds? I have a pet bird. He's a parrotlet named Little Bird. I saw some butterflies at Moody Gardens in Galveston.
3. Horses or cows? I rode a horse once. It was at a dude ranch. I've never ridden a cow.
4. Turtles or snakes? Check out all the snakes that Paula has. She has a turtle, too.
5. Frogs or grasshoppers? I picked up a frog once, and all his guts came out his mouth. I didn't realize he was dead. I saw a grasshopper on my garage door the other day.
6. Lions or tigers? Christine said she saw a beast that was half lion, half tiger. I'd like to see that.
7. Elephants or mice? I've never had either for a pet.
8. Porcupines or aardvarks? Was the Pink Panther's nemesis an aardvark? I can't remember. I didn't much like that show anyway.
9. Unicorns or dragons? I used to collect unicorns. I suspect I have a bunch in storage. Someday soon, I'll give them away.
10. Thought-Provoking Question of the Week: You live in a rather dumpy apartment. A friend offers you a chance to be a roommate at a new place s/he is moving into, but they don't allow pets. You have a pet. Do you find your pet a new home and take the new place, or do you keep your pet and stay put? Good Lord... of course I wouldn't give up my pet. Sheesh.
Garage Sales and Haggling [06/02/03]
[Shaping Up]
I've been going through closets and bookcases and crates, etc., and sorting through the junk to find stuff to throw away and give away. Amazingly enough, I'm getting rid of more than I'm keeping. That's saying a lot because I've always been a big packrat.
I'm putting the "give away" stuff in bags and boxes to give to a local charity. When I was a kid, all that stuff would have been saved for a garage sale. Ack! I can't stand the thought of a garage sale. I can't stand the thought of actually taking money for my cast offs. I can't stand the thought of pricing all that crap. I can't stand the thought of advertising it. I can't stand the thought of getting up early and dealing with all the people coming to buy stuff.
And I especially can't stand the thought of haggling. I hate haggling. I hate it at garage sales. I hate it at car dealers. I hate it with realtors.
If I were queen, I would make haggling illegal. I would make it so that if you're selling something, you set the price you want. Period. If you're buying something, you buy at that price or you walk away. Sheesh... why do we have to do that haggling dance? Ugh.
Back to garage sales... I remember people used to steal stuff at my Mom's garage sales. Stuff that wasn't even priced very high. What's up with that? So you'd rather go to hell for stealing than pay $1? Or is it that you can steal it and then confess your sins and everything is okay. You get something for free and still have a ticket to heaven. What a deal.
The thing I worry about with donations, though, is that someone who works there will take the stuff they like. I don't mind if they get first dibs and pay for it into the charity fund. But if they just take it, it would make me mad. I'll never know, though.
Bottom line is that all that stuff is not cluttering up my life anymore. And I don't have to deal with the hell that is a garage sale.
