Friday Five - Whatever [05/30/03]

[Memes - Friday Five]

friday five
1. What do you most want to be remembered for? I don't live life for other people. Hopefully, I will be remembered positively, but I'm not going to change my life just so my memory will be shaped a certain way. 2. What quotation best fits your outlook on life? one day at a time

3. What single achievement are you most proud of in the past year? Whatever it is, it's in the past.

4. What about the past ten years? See answer #3.

5. If you were asked to give a child a single piece of advice to guide them through life, what would you say? If it's not fun or doesn't make you happy and you don't need to do it, don't.

It's Anti-Procrastination Day! [05/28/03]

[Anti-Procrastination]

It's anti-procrastination day again! I'm going to clean my microwave. Ick! I never notice it's got splatters on it until I'm cooking something, and then I'm too busy cooking to clean it and by the time I'm finished with that, I forget. So I'm making a special point today to clean the splatters! Then in the future, if I'm smart, I'll clean the splatters while their fresh every time I microwave something.

My plan to exercise and drink water is going pretty good even though it hasn't produced great results as far as losing weight. I'm not discouraged, though. The main thing is that I keep it up. Once I get the routines in place so that it's second nature, I can adjust them to make them work for me better. I've already gotten the water drinking down. And I walk up the stairs 4 times a day at work. But I've gotten away from walking on my treadmill. Mainly because I've been devoting that time to decluttering and cleaning my house. I think it's a good tradeoff at the moment.

I just called the donation pick up place to come to the house to pick up another big load of crap I decided I don't need anymore. Woo-Hoo! It's cathartic. smile

This or That - Habits, Quirks, Routines [05/27/03]

[Memes - This or That]

1. Do you prefer silence or do you like background sound (music, TV, etc)? If I'm reading or doing something that requires thinking, I want silence. Otherwise, music or TV is fine as long as it's something I like. I don't like noise for the sake of noise, though.

2. Bathe/shower in morning or evening? Shower in the morning.

3. Sleeping in complete darkness, or with a nightlight on? I don't need complete darkness, but nothing too bright either. Although, I sleep fine after the sun comes up. heh!

4. Lay out clothes the night before, or just grab what's closest in the morning? Lately, I've been picking the shirt and pants the night before. But only on workdays.

5. Hang up/fold clothes neatly, or just toss them wherever? Hang them up and fold them (fairly) neatly.

6. Work out at a gym, or at home on your own (or do you not bother with exercise)? I walk the stairs at work and walk on the treadmill at home. It takes too much time going to and from the gym, and then you have to deal with, errrr, people.

7. Talk on the phone, or via IM/e-mail? Email all the way. No phone. No IM.

8. Are you usually on time, or late? I'm usually early.

9. Spendthrift or frugal? Isn't that the same thing? I spend more than I probably should, but there are some things I can't bring myself to spend money on. Like color print cartridges for my printer. Yeah... it prints pretty in color, but when do I really *need* to print something in color. To impress someone? Oh well... let them be not impressed.

10. Thought-Provoking Question of the Week: You work with someone who is not in the habit of bathing regularly. The smell seems to be getting worse and worse! Would you: 1. try to do something about it, or 2. try to grin and bear it? If you said 1, what would you do? I'd probably grin and bear it.

Dream Journal - Church and the Devil Toy [05/27/03]

[Dream Journal]

I had a some dreams this weekend, but there wasn't enough detail to write them down at the time. Some of them stuck with me, though...

I decided to go to church. I got there and saw that a guy I work with, Hank, was the preacher. He was in the pulpit. The congregation was small, and they were sitting in bleachers at the side. I walked up to Hank. He asked me if I wanted to take the sacrament. I asked him what I would have to do. He said I'd just have to eat it. So I agreed. We went in front of the pulpit, and he pulled out a round white chip thing and said something. I ate it. He looked at me like I was supposed to say something, so I said, "Thank You." Later I thought I should probably have said "Amen." I went to sit with the congregation.

I sat by CM. He was dressed formally like usual. After church, though, he changed into less formal clothes. He was dressed like a biker.
Another dream:

I was in the kitchen. I noticed the blender in the corner behind the sink started rising. I saw a little plastic devil toy peek out from behind it. It had a knife. Perhaps it was coming after me because of my expose on the Toy War in my neighborhood. Later, I was pulling on its limbs. They were plastic tubes connected with string. My intention was to cut the strings.

Two things I saw this weekend [05/26/03]

[What's Going On?]

I saw two things this weekend that go under the "you don't see that everyday" category...
  1. a shooting star. I forgot to make a wish until later, but I made a wish anyway.
  2. a boy pull his pants down and pee right in the middle of someone's front yard. He kept his underwear up, though. It didn't seem like he was being mean. It just seemed like he had to go.

A Letter from My Dad [05/24/03]

[Memories]

Back in 1992, my Dad retired from his job as a pressman at the Houston Chronicle. I think he retired early due to medical reasons. I bought a new computer and gave him my old one.

Last night, I found a letter he wrote to me and my brothers on the computer. It made me cry a little bit. Here it is:

Since this is the 18th of November [note: it was really October 18th] and this is the first letter I am trying to compose I will make a few mistakes as I put on paper a report of all my good fortunes.      I HAVE BEEN ENJOYING LEISURE very much. I go to see my Dr. once a month to secure a document that states that I am unable to perform my regular job since my delicate rib can not stand the trauma that exist in the work place.

As you may know, I am trying to be a self taught COMPUTER operator, Since all of my children are experts on these machines I thought it would be easy to set myself down and do what ever a person is supposed to do with these onery pieces of equipment.

I have only wiped out the processor just one time since Kim brought it home and that has been less than a week. Larryhad to come over two nights to reboot the critter.

LU my ever loving wife is doing her thing. She is painting her Christmas houses for the nice people who like to add to their collections of prettys.

AS YOU CAN SEE MY INDENTS DON'T ALIGN TOO GOOD BUT I never took typing in school but if this printer will print this letter I will put a copy in the mail for tomorrow, the addresses are on the envelopes so all can read the letter who so desires.

Love to all (signed) Fred (Dad--

I love my new stylist! [05/23/03]

[What's Going On?]

My new hair stylist is awesome! One of the reasons I hadn't gotten my hair cut in a long time is because it's hard for me to find a stylist that will listen to what I want. I have naturally wavy hair, and for some reason, stylists always want to kill the wave. The last one I went to blow dried the hell out of it and then used a flattening iron to make it straight! Ugh!

I told this guy that I wanted to start letting my hair dry naturally every day. So he cut it in a way that it would work! Yay!

I have a picture of my new hair up on my webcam page right now, if you want to see it.

The other reason I love my new hair stylist is because he watched Vertigo recently and while were talking about it, he exclaimed, "Those eyebrows!" I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks Kim Novak's eyebrows in that movie are ridiculously huge!

This or That - Potpourri [05/20/03]

[Memes - This or That]

1. Large or small family? My immediate family was small. Mom, Dad, Brother, Me. My extended family on my Mom's side was small. My extended family on my Dad's side was large. I don't plan on having any kids of my own unless I marry into them.

2. Potato chips or pretzels? Either one, I guess. I like to eat salty pretzels with chocolate ice cream.

3. House or apartment? I live in a duplex, but I'd like a house.

4. Zebras or giraffes? I've never eaten either one. wink

5. Candles or potpourri? Raspberry scented candles. Sometimes potpourri can have a sickly sweet smell. But, then again, so can candles.

6. Flowers or trees? I've killed both. Not on purpose.

7. Right or left-handed? I'm right handed, but I'm told I deal cards left-handed.

8. Model trains or dolls/stuffed animals? I think model trains are real cool, but to do it right, you pretty much have to have a whole room dedicated to it.

9. Comedy or drama? Most likely drama.

10. Thought-provoking question of the week: The city of Boston has recently banned smoking in all restaurants and bars. Would you want to see such a law passed in your city/town/country, or not? Yes, please.

Mystery Solved! Eyed Click Beetle! [05/19/03]

[Animals]

The mystery of that giant bug that woke me up on Thursday is solved! It's a Large Eyed Click Beetle. The one crawling on me didn't have antennae like this one, though. I get click beetles in my house occasionally, but they're never that big. They're less than an inch long, and they make a terribly annoying clicking noise. I'm glad this one didn't start clicking. It was completely still from the time I swatted it off my leg until I put it outside. It didn't even mind me taking it's picture. I bet it was just as scared of me as I was of it.

Friday Five - Food and Cooking [05/16/03]

[Food | Memes - Friday Five]

friday five
1. What drinking water do you prefer -- tap, bottle, purifier, etc.? I like Ozarka spring water at work. At home I drink tap water that's been put through a Brita water filter. 2. What are your favorite flavor of chips? If there's dip, I like salted tortilla chips or Fritos. I like both baked and fried Cheetos, too.

3. Of all the things you can cook, what dish do you like the most? Maybe Chicken Kiev. I haven't made it in years, though.

4. How do you have your eggs? Hard fried.

5. Who was the last person who cooked you a meal? How did it turn out? My friend made some beef and potato salad. It was great.

Baseball Stuff [05/15/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some things that are (sort of) baseball related:
  • I'm not a fan of baseball.
  • The last game I saw in person was a Texas Rangers game at the Ballpark at Arlington. I think they were playing Seattle. Nolan Ryan threw out the first pitch. They were having some kind of celebration in his honor.
  • My mom used to LOVE baseball. She was sad one year when baseball went on strike. I think it's so stoopid when sports go on strike.
  • I have that Ricky Williams baseball card where he's doing the Heisman pose.
  • I'm glad they changed the name of Enron Field, but Minute Maid Park sounds kinda goofy. I guess I miss the days when stadiums didn't have the names of companies.
  • When Lily's barking, I tell her, "Lily! There's no barking in baseball!"

A big bug was crawling on me [05/15/03]

[Animals]

I stayed home from work today because I'm having a bad allergy attack. I have fever, too, so it might not be allergies. I dunno, but I feel miserable. I was sleeping on the couch all afternoon. But I woke up because this was crawling on me. It's close to actual size, too. Go ahead... put your thumb and forefinger up to the screen and measure it for yourself. Just in case your screen resolution is different from mine, it's 2.5 inches long. Ugh. I can still feel it on me. I'm going to take a shower now.

[Television]

I voted this week on American Idol! Woo-Hoo!! This is the first time I tried. It only took about 20 dials to get through, too. And guess what? I voted for Kimberly. Uh huh!!! I thought seriously about who I would buy a CD from if there wasn't all the hoopla of the show, and I like Kimberly's voice the best. I've never been a big fan of the kind of voice Ruben has (even though I think he's great), and Clay just goes too far into the cheesey zone. I said it from the very beginning that there's something I don't like about the way he pronounces words, too, and I think that would bother me on a CD. So it's "Go Kimberly!!" happy

Texas Democrats Throw a Tantrum [05/13/03]

[In the News]

Un fricken believable... Texas Democrats go hide in Oklahoma instead of continuing the legislative process. We have a budget crisis, and they're throwing a temper tantrum. What a joke.

This is pissing me off. Here's another article.

I can't believe this quote...

"Our House rules, including those regarding a quorum, were adopted precisely to protect the people from what is before the House today -- the tyranny of a majority," they said. "By our actions today we are fulfilling our responsibilities to our constituents and upholding our oaths we took to serve the people of Texas."
The "tyranny of a majority"? Since when doesn't majority rule? What the hell do they think democracy is? And since when are quorum rules established to protect from the majority? They're set up to ensure the majority is represented, ya dorks. They're upholding their oaths to serve the people of Texas? Give me a freakin' break! Get back to Texas and do your job! mad

Incidentally... I would be just as angry if the Republicans did this.

Something I saw on TV once... [05/13/03]

[Human Observation]

This insane move by the Texas Democrats to flee to Oklahoma instead of doing their job reminds me of something I saw on TV once.

It was on Animal Planet. It was a court show like Judge Wopner, but all the cases involved animals. Actually... I think Judge Wopner was the judge, too.

Anyway... this guy owed this lady some money. For some reason, she had possession of his horses, too. She was willing to settle for the horses instead of the money.

The guy didn't have the money to pay her, but he didn't want to give her the horses. Judge Wopner was questioning the guy and asking him why he wouldn't give her the horses. The guy just kept saying, "It's not fair." Wopner was saying it wasn't fair that he owed her the money and wasn't paying her. The guy agreed. Wopner said a fair trade would be to give her the horses and the debt would be gone. The guy said, "It's not fair." Wopner asked how come it wasn't fair. They guy said, "Well... it's not fair to me."

I don't understand where people get the idea that "fair" is different depending on which side you're on. Fair is fair. Just because something doesn't make you happy, doesn't mean it's not "fair."

I didn't get to see the outcome of the case. But I hope the guy learned a hard lesson about the meaning of the word "fair."

This or That - Potpourri [05/13/03]

[Memes - This or That]

1. Packrat or minimalist? I've been a packrat all my life, but I'm trying to scale back. A few years ago, I stopped collecting so much stuff, though. Like penguins... I collect them, so I used to get every penguin I'd see. Now I just admire them and only get one if I truly feel I can't do without.

2. Computer: desktop or laptop? I use a desktop mostly. I have a laptop, but it's really old. I think it has 4 megabytes of ram. laugh It still works if I need to check email on AOL, though. So if I ever go on a vacation, I'll take it with me. smile

3. Seashore or mountains? At this point, I'd take either. I haven't had a vacation in so long. frown

4. Carpeting or bare floors? I like carpeting except in the bathrooms, kitchen, and entryway. But I kinda like the look of tile flooring in the living areas. And after having my dog upchuck on the carpet several times, I think I'd rather have something easier to clean.

5. Drinking water: bottled or tap? I drink bottled water at work. I use a Brita water filter for tap water at home.

6. Shopping websites: eBay or Amazon? Mostly Amazon. I used to be addicted to eBay, but I've gotten away from it.

7. Cute little kitties or big scary tigers? That question is a bit leading, no? I like big beautiful tigers. haha I'll take cute little kitties over scary tigers.

8. Front door or back door? I don't have a back door. frown

9. Lots of jewelry, or little/none? Just a little.

10. Thought-provoking question of the week: At the last minute, you obtain tickets to an event you're dying to attend. However, you have to work that day! Do you ask the boss for the time off, or just call in sick? It depends on what is going on at work. If I feel like I can miss, I'll just be honest with my supervisor. He's cool. If I didn't think I could miss because of a deadline or a meeting or whatever, I'd just go to work.

Today's Cleaning Mission [05/12/03]

[Shaping Up]

I'm doing well on my quest to become a better person. I've lost 5 pounds so far (although I'm sure I'll bounce back up a little before I go down some more). And last night, for no other reason than "I wanted to", I cleaned my bathroom sink, faucet and countertop. I mean a really deep clean with bleach and ajax and a toothbrush for the hard to get to spots. I also got rid of a bunch of earrings that were broken, and some makeup I never use. Why I was keeping those broken earrings is beyond me!

Tonight, my assigned mission from the FlyLady is to clean underneath the toilet. Ick. But "ick" means it needs it!! Anyone wanna join me? happy

Maybe I'll go with a MiniDisc Recorder [05/09/03]

[Music]

minidisc recorderminidisc recorder A few days ago, I expressed interest in buying a notebook computer. Now I'm thinking about getting a portable minidisc recorder instead. It won't do as much as a new notebook, but it will do the recording part. I think. It says it has digital audio inputs, so it should record from my Roland music workstation fine. And it has a USB cable, so that should take care of transferring the audio tracks to my computer. If it works like I think it will work, it'll take a lot of the headache out of making music and maybe I'll be get motivated to start recording again. Rock!

TiVo Home Media Option [05/09/03]

[What's On TiVo?]

I finally got the TiVo Home Media Option to work. I never could get it to work wireless, so I ordered a USB Ethernet adapter and hard wired it into my router. I just plugged it in and everything worked perfectly! Yay! There are four things it does:

  • TiVo to TiVo transfer - I haven't used this yet. That's where you can hook two TiVo's up to two different TVs, and watch stuff recorded on either TiVo on either TV. I only have one TiVo, though.

  • Photo viewing - This is where I can view pictures that I have stored on my computer on my TV. It works great, but this isn't the coolest thing ever. I don't really have a need to look at pictures on my TV. Maybe I will in the future, though.

  • MP3 listening - This one rawks! I have over 900 MP3s on my computer right now (downloaded from legal sites or ripped from bought CDs thank you very much). Since my TV is hooked up to my stereo, that means I can now listen to the MP3s that are on my computer on my big stereo. I can set it to play all 900 MP3s at random. Woo-Hoo! Rock!

  • Remote scheduling - This is where I can get on the internet, search for a program and tell my TiVo to record it. I tried it yesterday. Christine reminded me of "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai." I wanted to record it, but I was on my lunch break at work. So I got on the internet, found a showing, and told it to record. Fifteen minutes later, I got an email that said there were no conflicts and my TiVo was set to record it. Woo-Hoo! Love that!!

Friday Five - Organization [05/09/03]

[Memes - Friday Five]

friday five
1. Would you consider yourself an organized person? Why or why not? No. I guess my brain doesn't work that way. 2. Do you keep some type of planner, organizer, calendar, etc. with you, and do you use it regularly? No.

3. Would you say that your desk is organized right now? My desk at work is fairly organized. My desk at home is not. But I just moved my computer from the desk to the dining room table and haven't fully decided what to do with the desk yet.

4. Do you alphabetize CDs, books, and DVDs, or does it not matter? No way. I try to keep CD artists and book authors together, but it doesn't usually stay that way.

5. What's the hardest thing you've ever had to organize? I don't know. I can't think of anything right now.

House Hunting Sucks... [05/09/03]

[Just Griping]

I had predicted that house hunting with someone else would be problematic. I was hoping I was being overly pessimistic, but I wasn't. The things I want in a house are being dismissed. Not once has my house hunting partner acknowledged that we should get a house we both like. He has, however, let me know what he wants and tried to talk me out of what I want. I'm not asking for the stars. Just to live in a better place than I'm living now. And for some kind of acknowledgement that what I want matters.

I sure could... [05/08/03]

[What's Going On?]

I sure could use a shoulder and neck massage. Really. I think it would solve all my woes. Yup. It sure would.

I saw this at BrykMantra:

It's Anti-Procrastination Day! [05/07/03]

[Anti-Procrastination]

It's anti-procrastination day again! The only thing I can think of that I've been putting off is getting my oil changed. But since I'm at work today, that's not going to happen. So I will accept today's mission as my act of anti-procrastination. Clean out the refrigerator! Ain't life grand! smile

This or That - Media [05/06/03]

[Memes - This or That]

1. TV or radio? I rarely listen to the radio at home. I either have the TV on or a CD. In the car, it's either the radio or a CD.

2. On the radio: talk or music station? I generally don't like talk radio, but during the war this year, I listened to one of the AM talk stations to catch up in the mornings. Otherwise, I listen to a music station (although they talk a lot in the mornings).

3. Actual books or books-on-tape (or e-books)? Actual books. I've considered trying a book on tape, but I really don't think I could concentrate on it. I have a hard time even knowing what the lyrics are in a song I'm listening to. E-books don't attract me at all.

4. Actual newspaper, or web version? Web. Although my daddy was a pressman for the Houston Chronicle. I just never got into reading the newspaper.

5. Wall Street Journal or National Enquirer? Gak! Neither! But I'd take the Enquirer over the WSJ if there was nothing else to read.

6. TV news...news channel such as CNN, or your local broadcast news? Either.

7. A movie you've been looking forward to seeing gets bad reviews all around. See it anyway, or pass? I might wait until it comes on cable. I don't go to many movies anyway.

8. See movies when they first come out, or wait a few weeks for the lines at the theater to get shorter? Wait a few weeks.

9. TV: cable, satellite dish, or just plain old antenna? I have cable.

10. Thought-provoking question of the week: If you had to choose only one form of media to come into your home, which would you choose...print (newspapers, magazines) or electronic (TV, internet)? Why? Not thought-provoking at all... I rarely read newspapers and magazines, but I'm almost always on the internet or watching TV.

Twenty Questions [05/05/03]

[About Me]

I'm not sure if I'll make this a regular thing, but I'm in the mood for Twenty Questions today...

1. What's the best birthday present you've ever had?
It's too hard to pick a "best." The last one I got was a DVD player two years ago. That was great. I didn't get anything yet this year. Oh... except my friend Julia took me out for lunch. That was nice. smile

2. What do you eat for breakfast?
Either potato and egg tacos from Taco Cabana or a pastry from Starbucks.

3. What's your favourite piece of jewellery?
The diamond ring my grandma used to wear. I got it when she died. The stone was one of my mother's wedding rings and when that marriage didn't work out, she made it into a ring for my grandma (her mother).

4. What's the best book you've ever read?
I'm not sure about "best," but A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving is wonderful.

5. Which gadget couldn't you do without? Is a computer too much to be considered a gadget? If so, then how about my TiVo remote. 6. Which website can you recommend to me?
If you need to get your house (and life) organized, try FlyLady.

7. Do you have any allergies?
Yes. Awful ones. Right now. Achoo!

8. Are you left or right handed?
Right.

9. Do you have any piercings?
One in each ear.

10. What's your favourite painting/print?
I like The Blue Dog paintings.

11. What was the last thing you ate?
Sunflower seeds. They were already peeled.

12. Where in the world would you like to be right now?
At home in my bed.

13. Do you collect anything? If so, what?
Shot glasses from places I visit and penguins.

14. What type of books do you prefer reading ( e.g. romance )?
Epic Fantasy.

15. Do you have a daily newspaper? Which one?
Nope. I don't read the paper.

16. Do you use tissues or linen handkerchiefs?
Errr... I just get some paper off the toilet paper roll. blush

17. What's your oldest possession?
I don't know. I said it was my Suzy doll before, but I haven't found her (not that I've looked very hard).

18. Do you use a fountain pen or a ballpoint pen?
Ballpoint.

19. Do you have any pets?
Yes. A dog and a bird.

20. Do you have any phobias?
Not really, but I hate bugs. A lot.

Just Some Stuff [05/04/03]

[Just Some Stuff]

Just some things...
  • Today I backed up a bunch of files from my computer. My CD writer keeps messing up. Everytime it does, it ruins the CD. I burned 8 CDs worth of files. That's great. happy My CD drive ruined 6 CDs. That's not great. tongue
  • At Kevin's suggestion, I watched most of the "Nashville Star" marathon today. I almost didn't get through the first one because I couldn't deal with all that country music. But I stuck it out, and I'm glad I did. Once they got it narrowed down to 12 artists, it was fun. Wow... those people are so talented. It really surprised me when Travis and Jamey were voted off. They were fun. But I'm proud of the Texans who are doing so well. smile
  • I've been doing great on my quest to make myself a better person or whatever. I've lost 4 pounds so far. And my sink has stayed shiny for days. I also cleaned out a couple of drawers and put a bunch of stuff in bags to give to charity.
  • I feel so much happier having my computer in the living room. I was feeling smothered spending all my time in the bedroom. I can see the TV now. I can listen to music on the big stereo. I can see out the window. Life is good. smile
  • Since I moved the TiVo into the living room, I'm not as inclined to watch TV when I go to bed. So I've been reading again. Yay!
  • I took a bunch of pictures of wildflowers in Lily's walking field again this weekend. I don't know what I'm going to do this time next year. There won't be any flowers left that I don't have pictures of already. I might have to spread my wings and take pictures of other things. laugh
  • It's time for bed. Goodnight, y'all!

Sunday Sonnet [05/04/03]

Greta Van Susteren [05/03/03]

[Television]

I turned on the TV the other night, and Greta Van Susteren was on Fox News Channel. She was being really mean to a police officer. Mean, I tell ya!

Apparently, a guy on parole hadn't checked in with his parole officer at the appointed time, so he had a warrant out for his arrest. The guy saved 3 children from a burning building recently, and, just after that, he was arrested and put in jail for his parole violation.

Greta was being a serious beech, grilling the lady about why they arrested the guy after he saved the 3 kids. Now, I agree, it's a real cool thing to save kids from burning buildings. But when there's a warrant out for someone's arrest, police officers don't review what the person has done lately and then decide on their own whether they want to arrest the person. They just arrest them!

Greta said it was a real disservice to put this guy in jail because now there is one less person on the streets willing to save children from burning buildings. I like Fox News Channel, but I won't be watching Greta Van Susteren anymore. Beech.

I guess if she ever ran for public office, she could put this on her platform:

"If I am elected, I will ensure that we have more convicted felons on the streets who are willing to save children from burning buildings."

Bath and Body Works Shopping [05/03/03]

[Mine!]

I went to Bath and Body Works today and bought a bunch of stuff. I had a coupon cluttering up my room, you see, and I'm trying to get rid of the clutter. cool

So I just gave myself a facial. I guess it was a facial... that seems too big of a word for what I did. I smeared honey and jojoba beads on my face and then rinsed it off. Is that a facial? I dunno, but my face is really soft now. I used Bee Good Honey Buff Facial. Oh... I guess it is a facial then.

I also bought a ton of Sun-Ripened Raspberry items: candles, body butter, body cream, silk body lotion, shower scrub and two kinds of soap. Woo-Hoo!!

My latest want... [05/02/03]

[Computer Stuff]

The latest thing I want to blow a bunch of money on is a notebook computer. I want one with a good sound card with digital inputs and outputs. I also want it to be able to connect to a wireless network.

I want to go to a website where I can build a virtual one and see how much it would cost. But I'm not having any luck with that. Not that I've looked extensively. I really shouldn't be spending that kind of money anyway. tongue

Friday Five - Songs [05/02/03]

[Memes - Friday Five | Music]

friday five
1. Name one song you hate to admit you like. Barbra Streisand's "Don't Rain On My Parade" from Funny Girl. 2. Name two songs that always make you cry. There aren't any songs that always make me cry. But the first time I heard Milo's backing track for Space Needle 2.0, I cried. Same for bud bennett's Touch The Water.

3. Name three songs that turn you on. I can't think of three. "Games People Play" by Jon Solo is pretty sexy, though. I looked for it online, but I didn't find it.

4. Name four songs that always make you feel good.
Lavender by Marillion
Mrs. Potter's Lullaby by Counting Crows
I'll Be by Edwin McCain
Cannonball by Rhetoric Tuesday

5. Name five songs you couldn't ever do without. There aren't specific songs that I couldn't do without. But I would hate it if there were no new songs anymore. I thrive on discovering new music. Right now I'm enjoying the new CDs from Evanescence and Coldplay. They're awesome!

I felt good the other day [05/01/03]

[What's Going On?]

I guess it's just an expected and undesirable effect of getting older, but I almost always have some ache or pain. It's usually my head that's achey. Especially this time of year when my allergies are acting up. My sinuses get all stuffy and my head is either on the verge of a headache or in real pain. I also get headaches from working at the computer most of my waking hours.

Sometimes the aches and pains are in my neck or shoulders or hips or knees. There's one spot on my neck that gets aggravated every so often, and it hurts to turn my head very far. It feels like if I just popped my neck a certain way, maybe it would go away. So I end up twisting and turning to try to pop my neck, but it never works the way I think it should. Hmmm... maybe I need to see a chiropractor.

Anyway... the point of this is that on Tuesday I went home from work a little early. I was really tired, so I laid down on my bed for a rest. Not long after I laid down, all the aches and pains went away. I wasn't asleep. I was on the verge, but still completely aware of what I was doing. Not only were the aches and pains gone, but I actually felt *good*. I felt peace.

Before I fell asleep, the doorbell rang. I wasn't irritated because I knew it was the UPS man coming to deliver the hardware for my new wireless network. Woo-Hoo!! But as soon as I got up, all the achiness came back.

I signed for my package, opened it, started reading the installation instructions, and decided it was too much to do in an evening, so I laid back down. Just a minute later, I was back to feeling good and at peace again. This time I slept until just before "American Idol" came on. I guess my internal clock was set to wake up then.

The thing that's strange about all this is that I don't feel that way when I go to bed for the night. I wish I did. I wonder what it is that made me feel so good laying down at 5:30 p.m.? I hope I can figure it out. I want to feel good like that more often.

Wireless Frustration! [05/01/03]

[Computer Stuff]

Grrrr.... I've been trying to get this stoopid wireless network to work, and it just ain't. I've got the router connected to the cable modem okay. And I can hard wire the computer to the router, and that works (or I wouldn't be able to post this!).

I had the wireless working for a little bit from my computer to the router with a PCI card, but now that's gone all wonky. The T<
