It's Anti-Procrastination Day! [04/30/03]

[Anti-Procrastination]

Today is Anti-Procrastination Day. I think every Wednesday is. So I'm going to do a couple of things I've been putting off... clean the bird cage and clean a stain that's on the couch. I'm only posting this so I don't conveniently forget. smile

Update: DONE! Woohoo!

American Idol Stuff [04/30/03]

[Television]

I don't understand why some people hate "American Idol" so much. I mean, I kinda understand if they hate the music industry and are projecting that rage on to this show. But this show doesn't set out to find all the major music acts that we'll be listening to over the next several years. It's giving some kids a chance to be on television, and one of them a chance to get a recording contract. I think that's real cool.

I know, too, that there are people who don't like it when someone is a recording artist, but they don't write their own songs. I don't get that, but I respect that opinion. Maybe that's part of the dislike for "American Idol," too. The contestants are singing cover songs. I suspect they will be at the mercy of the recording contract, too, about what songs they sing. I dunno... maybe I should check Kelly Clarkson's CD to see if she wrote any of the songs. Not that it would matter to me.

Anyway... tonight is a 1 hour long results show. Up until this week, the results shows have been 1/2 hour. And those were drug out for drama's sake. Now we have to endure an entire hour? What are they going to be doing? Reviewing the lives of the performers? More group style music performances (blech!)? Maybe I'll wait until TiVo has it all recorded and watch it with the magic fast forward button enabled. I just want to know the results! I didn't vote last night. I was going to, but the timing was off again. I never get through watching "American Idol" and "24" until after the voting closes.

But the voting is weird anyway. I know who I want kicked off this week (Josh). But that's not how the voting is handled. People vote for their favorite. I think that's why sometimes the worst contestant doesn't always get kicked off. I mean, what if someone is pretty good, but they are the second favorite of a lot people. They are high up there at #2 on a lot of people's list, but since they don't get enough #1 votes, they lose.

My point is, though, that even if I had voted, I don't know for whom I would have voted. Maybe Trenyce this time. I really think she was the best of the group. She still does that flappy finger thing with the mic, and that's real distracting to me. But her performance was awesome. Ruben was great on his first song and okay on the second. Clay's performing style is getting old even though he did loosen up a little bit last night. And Kimberly was great, but not as great as Trenyce, in my opinion. So there ya go... I guess I would have voted for Trenyce. But I would have rather voted to kick Josh off.

This or That - Take Comfort [04/29/03]

[Memes - This or That]

1. Lying down on the couch, or stretching out on a recliner? I like lying on my side better than on my back, so I'll choose the couch.

2. Going barefoot or wearing soft slippers? Honestly? I'd rather put my athletic shoes on.

3. Eating ice cream, or pizza? Ice cream if it's just a recreational thing. Pizza is good for a meal.

4. Watching on TV...a classic movie or a reality show? Probably a classic movie.

5. Wearing: blue jeans or sweat pants? My sweat pants have been a lot more comfortable than my jeans lately. blush But I sure need to find some sweat pants with pockets.

6. A long, soothing bubble bath or a quick, invigorating shower? My tub isn't fit for bubble baths, so a quick shower is better. Maybe some day I'll have a nice bathtub; then I'll take some bubble baths. smile

7. Furniture: leather, or something more on the fuzzy side? I prefer fuzzier.

8. Soft, classical music, or upbeat rock & roll? Rock & Roll. Woohoo!

9. Darkness or light? Darkness if I'm resting. Light if I'm doing stuff.

10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You get married, or otherwise begin cohabitating with a significant other. S/he moves into your place, but brings with them the UGLIEST chair you have ever seen! You really don't want this thing in your home, but SO says it is the most comfy chair s/he has ever sat in, and no way will they part with it. Do you: grin and bear it, or scheme to get rid of the monstrosity somehow? The chair wouldn't offend me. I'm all for comfort rather than style.

Geoblogs... Wow! [04/28/03]

This is too cool... it's a way to see recently updated blogs

Pearl Jam Tickets [04/28/03]

[Music]

I posted this entry in my picture blog, but decided it would go nicely here, too, since there's a story to it...

Pearl Jam TicketsBack when Pearl Jam was having their hissy fit over Ticketmaster, they required fans to purchase tickets by mail. I bought a pair for their July 2, 1995 show at South Park Meadows in Austin, TX (the ticket on the right). The cool thing about the tickets is that they had drawings on them, and they put the purchaser's name on them! See my name at the top. That show was cancelled for whatever reason, so they issued new tickets when the guys came back around to Austin (ticket on the left). It says it started at 7:30 p.m., but for whatever other reason, they changed the time just before the weekend to 2:00 p.m. I almost didn't hear about the time change. Whew! The show was good, but it was really hot. The Ramones opened up.

I had two of each ticket, but I sold the other ones on Ebay. I don't remember how much I got for them, but it was more than I thought I'd get. Not only that, but my check never cleared the bank, so I got to go for free. What a deal! smile

What a Productive Weekend! [04/27/03]

[What's Going On?]

It's been a great, productive weekend! I got most everything done on this weekend's to do list. As I said in my To Do List post, I was dreading this weekend because I had more to do than I had time. Mainly because I thought burning and putting the CD Swap CDs would take most of the day Saturday. But I got the artwork done Friday night, and started burning CDs before I went to bed. I woke up a couple of times during the night and took advantage of that to start the next CD burning. Rock!

I actually did more than was on my to do list, and that's what's making me feel so good about the weekend. I was cruising around Jimrie's Place and noticed a link to FlyLady. She had referred me to that program last year, but I was having so much difficulty with my new dog at the time that I couldn't deal with anymore lifestyle changes. I'm ready now, though. So I joined! Now I have a shiny sink, and I'm baby-stepping my way through getting my house uncluttered. FlyLady even motivated me to do my treadmill walking earlier in the day than I'd planned. It's a cool motivational program!

So now I'm going to bed. Goodnight, blog readers. smile

Weekend To Do List [04/27/03]

[To Do Lists]

And now for another exciting edition of Yay!! It's a To Do List!! happy

I'm kinda not looking forward to this weekend. Not because I have something to do that I don't like. But because I have SOO much to do that I do like. There's no way I'll have time. Plus, I'm suffering from allergies big-time, so I should just be resting. But no....

CD-R Bummer [04/26/03]

[Just Griping]

I bought some blank CD-Rs yesterday that look so cool. They look like vinyl records:

cdr_record.jpg

Unfortunately... they're crap! tongue

The first one I tried to burn gave me an error. The second one got through the burning process okay, but when I play it back, there's bad static. Grrrrr.

The thing that's fishy is the recording surface is black. Maybe there's some other kind of CD burner that can deal with them. Or maybe they're really crap. I dunno.

I found some more at Verbatim.com. I have a suspicion that those will work. Maybe I'll order some and find out...

Friday Five - The Last Thing [04/25/03]

[Memes - Friday Five]

friday five
1. What was the last TV show you watched? "The American Idol" results show on Wednesday night. I thought Josh Gracin should have gotten cut, but it's just as well that Carmen did. Now I'm a big Kimberly Locke fan. 2. What was the last thing you complained about and what was the problem? I complained that BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) sent me a letter trying to get me to pay a licensing fee to have music on my website. It's not a problem, because I already have permission from the copyright owners, so I don't have to pay the fee. But it got me upset because I hate how the entire music industry is structured. Not that I know a better way, but still. My main complaint is that you even have to jump through hoops when you're giving your own music away for free. sick

3. Who was the last person you complimented and what did you say? I told a friend he would do fine at his new job.

4. What was the last thing you threw away? A tissue. I have bad allergies right now.

5. What was the last website (besides this one) that you visited? It was probably Blogshares right before I went to bed last night. I'm #92 in the top 100 players right now. Woo-Hoo!

What's on Wednesday - TiVo [04/23/03]

[What's On TiVo?]

Yay!! TiVo didn't delete anything this week!! What's on TiVo?
TiVo recordings I need to watch
South Park The Jack Bull Parkinson Starburst (interview with Russell Crowe) Project X Larger Than Life Family Prayers 8MM the following are leftover from last week I Love You, I Love You Not Flatliners Courage Under Fire Cube2: Hypercube At Close Range Out of Sight Very Bad Things Celebrity Christina's House The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders Ruby Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil Niagara, Niagara Crazy/Beautiful The Little Prince Powder America's Sweethearts

I'm really going to do it... [04/23/03]

[Shaping Up]

I need to make some lifestyle changes. One of them I already blogged about (rearranging my house so that my 'puter is in the dining room). Today I decided I need to get into better shape. I'm going to start exercising again, and drinking a boatload of water.

I'm not going to go bananas with it, though. The thing that has worked for me in the past has been to walk for 20 minutes on my treadmill for two days in a row and then take a break the third day. So that's what I'll do. The key to walking on the treadmill is to get some good songs in my Nomad MP3 player, wear some shorts or a shirt with a pocket that I can put the player in, and have some good headphones that don't fall off my ears while I'm walking.

By the way... my treadmill is inclined, so it's not like an easy walk or anything.

I guess I'll blog my progress. I'll weigh myself tomorrow. That will establish "pound zero," and we'll go from there. Wish me luck! smile

Yay! It's Wireless!! [04/22/03]

[Computer Stuff]

wireless networkwireless network I just ordered a wireless network thingy. That's a picture of the router. I got some little baby ones that talk to it, too. I mainly got it because TiVo has a new home media option where I can make my computer talk to the TiVo. That means I can control the menu from my computer and send music to the TV which I have connected to the stereo. Also... at some point, there will be two TiVos and at least two computers in the house, so they will all be able to talk to each other and all connect to the internet. Rockin'!! I hope I can hook it up and make it work right. I'll find out in a few weeks. smile I'm also considering doing a major rearrangement of my house. Right now, I spend all my time in the bedroom. My TV, computer and bed are here. When I'm home, I only leave the bedroom to find food, walk the dog and use the restroom and shower. I can't see the TV very well from my computer, and that makes me unhappy. Plus, it's cramped in here!!

So I'm considering moving the TiVo to the living room and the computer to the dining room. I'd be able to see the TV from the computer just fine. And maybe I wouldn't feel so cramped all the time. Okay... I just talked myself into it. I'll wait for the wireless network thingy, though. Woo-Hoo!!

This or That - What is? [04/22/03]

[Memes - This or That]

1. Yummier: Chocolate ice cream or strawberry cheesecake? That's a tough one... I like chocolate more than strawberry, but I like cheesecake more than ice cream. How about I pick chocolate cheesecake? grin

2. Better to watch on TV: Movies or sports? That's way too general... what movie? who's playing what sport?

3. A better web browser: MSIE or Netscape (or tell us your own favorite!) Netscape 4 sucks. Bigtime. The Netscape versions after that are okay, I guess, but I'm a big fan of MSIE. happy

4. A better way to travel: Automobile or bus/train? I love my car!

5. Your preferred camera: Digital or film? Digital, for sure!

6. A Cooler Vehicle: Motorcycle or sports car? Sports car, but not a convertible. I like to be fully enclosed.

7. More fun: Video games or board games? Either one can be fun.

8. Sexier: A perfect body or an intelligent mind? Intelligent mind.

9. A stinkier smell: Skunk or gasoline (petrol)? Gasoline.

10. Thought-provoking question of the week: What is more important to you: making a ton of money and being at the top of your field, or finding your soulmate and living a comfortable but not wealthy life? Hands down... being comfortable with my soulmate. Chasing money and recognition sucks.

Blogshares ain't so bad... [04/22/03]

[Blogshares]

Well... I guess Blogshares still has some fun drama to it. Last night, I noticed Daypop was down to $6.30/share. So I bought 1250 shares. By this morning, it was up to $11.03. I sold all my shares for an overnight profit of $5,925. Weeeeeee! Of course, the share price dropped quite a bit when I sold. I always feel bad doing that. I'm not the competitive sort where I want to cause other people to lose money. Luckily, someone bought 1250 shares shortly after I sold them and the price went up even higher. So I don't even have to feel guilty for making the price drop. It was win win!! happy Also... I am a proud shareholder in ibm. Yup... that ibm. They're listed on Blogshares now. ha!

Merrin's Overvalued Blog [04/21/03]

[Blogshares]

Merrin's #1!! Merrin's #1!!

MerrinsOvervaluedBlog.gif

Hmmm... I guess having the #1 overvalued blog is good for some exposure, anyway... wink

Weekend ToDo List [04/21/03]

[To Do Lists]

It's a long weekend!! I have Friday and Monday off!! I've already farted away most of Friday sleeping late and buying and selling Blogshares, so I better get a to-do list written quick, or I won't have any direction for the next 3 days. Here goes:
  • Clean the bird cage
  • Get my oil changed!
  • Clean the living room
  • Build a free wallpaper webpage
  • Take and scan some pictures for my picture blog
  • Get my website W3C compliant Blog | Website | Picture Blog | Songs
  • Vacuum the house
  • Start and finish the laundry
  • Clean the kitchen
  • Watch some movies
  • Go to the petstore for Lily food and Little Bird food.
  • Go to the grocery store
  • pick songs for Kymberlie's CD Swap
  • Pay bills
  • Buy Stamps
I'll probably add some things as we go along. So much to do!!

Dream Journal - Group Travel [04/21/03]

[Dream Journal]

I dreamed I was on a vacation. I don't know where we were, but we'd been there a couple of days. All we'd done is stay in the hotel and go out to eat in the evenings. I was with a couple of guys, but not *with* either of them. We were staying in separate rooms. We got in the car, and I thought we were going out to eat, but the guy driving (Bruce from my work) said we were going someplace else. It upset me some because I hadn't brought my camera. Bruce didn't understand why I was upset. I just told him I needed to start bringing my camera with me everywhere.

We got where we were going and 3 people met us. One I already knew from when I started work where I work now. She's not someone I knew in real life.. but I did in the dream.

We went inside the building and the guys I was with snickered because there were Hallmark type posters for birthdays and Easter and such all over the walls. They were making fun that the women had been allowed to decorate the place. One of the women said she was in business selling those posters.

The place kinda turned into a place where people go for a retreat. I was in with a whole group of people now. I wanted to find where we were going to sleep, but they weren't showing us that place. I found out later, they hadn't decided whether the girls or the boys would be sleeping inside. I really didn't want to sleep outside. tongue

I wasn't feeling like getting involved in any of the activities. I was sitting on a couch with another girl and there was some activity going on. The leader of the activity said he wanted the two of us to go up and sing. I said I would, but when I got up there, they didn't have the lyrics written down. I couldn't sing because I can't remember lyrics. When it came time for me to sing, he handed me the microphone. I started to sing, but then I looked at him and said, "I can't sing it."

He was real mean and said, "You know there's an almond factory you could have gone to instead." I banged the microphone down on his desk and went back to sit down. I wasn't feeling well to begin with (allergies), and I hadn't volunteered to go to this place, and now I was being treated poorly.

The girl I was with came back to sit down and she acted unhappy with me, too. The guy came over just as I was telling her that I can't remember the lyrics. He said that makes a difference, and he understood. She said, "It doesn't make any difference to me." They both took out pieces of paper and were writing on them like they were grading me on my participation and performance. I asked if there was some kind of contest going on. I don't remember the answer.

Later I said to myself that I really wish there was an internet connection, so I could write this stuff in my blog. Someone overheard me and said something else mean. Another person later reminded me that I could have gone to the almond factory instead.

I got a notepad and was writing all this stuff down, but then I was afraid someone would get it and read it and make fun of me some more, so I wrote it in code.

Later, someone came to talk to me. She was nice. She asked me if I had anything to eat in my bag. I looked and there was a lot of chocolate. There were a couple of melted ice cream sandwiches, too.

I got up to throw them away, but walked down the block for some reason. I ended up in a bad part of town and some guys were trying to attack me. I ran back to the place, and they followed me. Somehow I was safe at the place. One of the attackers said to leave the two girls alone. The other attackers thought that meant back down altogether, but he explained that he only said two girls, and there were more. It meant that they could attack me if I came out. (This part was a lot weirder than that, though. Somehow the girls, including me, were inside packets like pop rocks or koolaid. You know... one of those weird things that only make sense in dreams).

Blogshares just got less fun... [04/19/03]

[Blogshares]

Blogshares isn't as fun as it was a couple days ago. They used to have a mechanism where if a blog's value increased dramatically, the share price would automatically increase. That's how I made most of my (fake) money. I scoped out the low valued blogs that I thought would increase in value and invested in them.

Another way I made a big chunk of (fake) money was when the Blogshares bot visited the MoveableType homepage and found an outgoing link to Blog O' The Blurf in the recently updated blogs section. Blog O' The Blurf's value went sky high, and so did it's share price. I was one of the lucky investors. Now THAT was FUN!!!!!!!!!!!! happy happy happy But the way things are now, that won't happen anymore. frown frown frown

It's not as fun without that bit of randomness. But that's just me. I hope the people who like it the way it is have a ball. smile

Friday Five - Celebrities [04/18/03]

[Memes - Friday Five]

friday five
1. Who is your favorite celebrity? I don't really have a favorite. I've been enjoying watching all the John Cusack movies. And Adam Duritz is a cool singer and songwriting. 2. Who is your least favorite? I can't think of a least favorite right now. I feel like keeping things positive right now anyway.

3. Have you ever met or seen any celebrities in real life? I've gotten autographs from bands. Counting Crows, Stabbing Westward, Better Than Ezra, The Refreshments, Sister Hazel, Matchbox 20, and probably some more I can't think of right now. I got my picture taken with Christopher Hall of Stabbing Westward. It's a very ugly picture of me, though. frown Funny thing is, I found that picture on the web one time, but they had cut me out of it. haha!

4. Would you want to be famous? Why or why not? I would like to be anonymously famous. In other words, people would know my music and my name, but not know what I look like. I have an aversion to talking to strangers, so I'd rather not put myself in a position to be recognized on the street. Is that selfish? I'm not sure.

5. If you had to trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why? I think I better just be careful what I wish for. smile

A third arm would be good... [04/16/03]

[Ponderings]

On the drive home from work today, I was thinking I should start taking my camera with me when I walk Lily. Yesterday evening I missed a beautiful shot. It was at sunset, and it literally looked like the sky was on fire. It was bright orange up to a point, and then it was dark blue gray. The line that divided the two was very jagged like the outline of a flame.

But I didn't have my camera, and it was gone by the time we got home from the walk.

Then I was thinking how very hard it would be to take pictures on a walk with Lily anyway. Unless I had someplace to park her on her leash, I would only be able to use one hand to shoot. That rarely works out. tongue

So then I was thinking how cool it would be if humans had another arm. That would be so awesome. I could type and eat a hamburger at the same time! Wait... I could type and use the mouse at the same time!!!

But then I was thinking about how much more complex video game controllers would be. I haven't played video games too much since they quit making the ones with a one joystick/one button controller (Atari!!!). Now they're little panels with many buttons. My hands just don't work that way. But can you imagine what the controllers would be like if we had three hands to push buttons and roll knobs and guide joysticks!? nerd

What's on Wednesday - TiVo [04/16/03]

[What's On TiVo?]

Dadgummit... A "Kolchak the Nightstalker" marathon came on this week and TiVo deleted some movies to record it. That is such a cheesy show!! It was fun to watch the first couple of marathons, but now I'm all cheesed out! What's on TiVo?
TiVo recordings I need to watch

What I hate about the tech industry... [04/16/03]

[Human Observation]

My friend Julia sent me a link to webpage about the technospeak that the tech industry has developed to make themselves sound more important. I can't stand that language! I hate how they call their products "solutions." sick I hate the terms "distributed computing." I hate the term "scalable." I hate the term "robust." There are more hated terms I could list, but my head feels like it might implode. I think I'd like a Milky Way. Yeah... eating a Milky Way is the perfect "solution."

Texas Bluebonnet Contest [04/16/03]

[What's Going On?]

Texas BluebonnetThe bluebonnet is Texas' state flower, and it's my favorite of all the wildflowers (we've got a lot here!!). I took a picture of one last week for my picture blog, so I'm entering it in Big Kev's 2003 Texas Bluebonnet Challenge. The one I sent Kevin is bigger than the one I posted in my picture blog. If you'd like to see both, please visit the contest entry [no longer available] and the one I posted in my picture blog. Yay!

This or That - Money [04/15/03]

[Memes - This or That]

1. File taxes as early as possible, or wait until the last possible minute? I usually do them pretty early, but this year I waited until the second to last minute. I think the procrastination factor is directly related to how many forms I have to fill out.

2. File electronically, or mail paper forms? Some years, things are so simple that I file by phone. Those are the years I get things done early. This year I had to do the full 1040. If I have to do forms, I always mail them.

3. Prepare your own taxes, or have someone do it for you? I've always done my own.

4. Are you a saver or a spender? More of a spender, I guess. But I do put money in savings when I have some left over at the end of the month.

5. Do you prefer to carry cash, or pay with plastic (credit/debit cards), or by check? I usually have $100 at most in my wallet. I use that for eating out mostly and replenish it when it's gone. For everything else, I usually use plastic or a check.

6. You're broke and desperately need a job, but the only places that are hiring are retail or fast food places. Which would you pick? Retail. I worked in food service for about 2 weeks when I was in high school. I swore I never would again.

7. Keeping track of your money: are you more meticulous or careless about it? I wouldn't say I'm careless, but I don't do a budget or track the spending. I balance my checkbook every month, though.

8. What do you do if you find yourself with a lot of change weighing down your purse/pocket/wallet? Do you try to spend it to *get rid of it*, or do you put it in a jar or a piggy bank? I put it in a jar.

9. Which form of fake money do you like better...Monopoly money or those chocolate coins covered with gold foil? Mmmmm... chocolate! happy

10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You find a wallet containing $5,000 in cash, as well as several credit cards and the owner's drivers' license. Your rent is due tomorrow and you're short $200. Do you take the money (some or all of it) and mail back the wallet anonymously...or do you return the wallet with all contents intact? I can't imagine being short on the rent. I hope I never experience that. frown I suspect if I was desperate, I'd take $200 from the wallet and mail back the rest.

Blogshares is Fun! [04/15/03]

[Blogshares]

Blogshares is fun!! Wow! I made a very quick (fake) $1,400 in Blogshares this morning. Earlier this week, I paid 4 cents a share for 250 Blog O' The Blurf shares. This morning, they were up to $5.92/share due to a timely link from the Moveable Type website. Woo-Hoo!! I sold 240 and that made the share price jump up to $7.39, so other shareholders could make even more than me if they're paying attention.

My total worth is up to $2,929 ($1625 cash and $1304 shares). I wish it was this easy to make real money. laugh

To Do List [04/12/03]

[To Do Lists]

I've got another weekend to-do list. And this time, I'll get more stuff done. I promise. No.... really. smile

  • Do my taxes Refund! YES!
  • Make copies of my taxes and CPA renewal application and have them ready to mail on Monday
  • Release new song
  • start and finish laundry
  • start collecting songs for Kymberlie's Burn It - The Spring Edition CD Swap I started!
  • Scan (or take) some more pictures for my picture blog I took a couple, but didn't scan any

A Blogshare Dividend [04/11/03]

[Blogshares]

I am going to give away some shares of my Kim and Friend's Songs blog to my Yay! It's a Blog! shareholders. Kinda like a dividend. The shares are priced at $0.00 right now, but if everything goes right, it will be worth something in the future. I hope so. Thanks for investing!

New! I'm Not Gonna Take It Anymore [04/11/03]

[Music - My New Releases]

Kim SingingNew Song - I'm Not Gonna Take It Anymore
Jon Solo produced another hot tune and let me sing it. It's jazzy blues and has a lot of attitude! Thanks to Jon for writing and recording such a sultry song! Ya wanna here it? Okay.... I'm Not Gonna Take It Anymore.

Friday Five - Rock n' Roll [04/11/03]

[Memes - Friday Five]

friday five
1. What was the first band you saw in concert? I saw The Who at The Summit in Houston in 1980. Keith Moon was already dead, and Roger had already cut his hair. But it was so wonderful! Except it was July 5, and people brought leftover fireworks and were setting them off in the crowd. 2. Who is your favorite artist/band now? Counting Crows. I love love love the Counting Crows. smile smile

3. What's your favorite song? That's such a hard question... I guess I don't have a favorite since nothing popped into my head. I like that new Evanescence song (the one that goes "Save Me.").

4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be? I would love to be able to play the keyboard. I know the notes and can do some chords, but I can't play a song. This is a weird question because if I wanted to bad enough, I could. I just won't make the time to practice. And I'd need a LOT of practice.

5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why? I'm going to stay consistent with past "who would you like to meet" questions and say that I don't want to meet any people. I'd love to sing a duet with Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) or Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20), though. smile

Happy Hour with Jon Solo [04/10/03]

[Music - My New Releases]

Tomorrow night (Friday, April 11), Jon Solo will debut a brand new song on his internet radio broadcast, Happy Hour with Jon Solo. And I'm singing on it!! His show is a lot of fun! There's a chat with a lot of crazy people hanging out and listening to great tunes. I'll be there. Hope to see you there, too! It starts at 8:00 p.m. eastern.

Cooking Instructions [04/10/03]

[Food]

I had a frozen Four Cheese Red Baron Deep Dish Single pizza for dinner. I cooked it before I ate it, of course. I had to. The instructions said... "COOKING INSTRUCTIONS: Cook before eating. CONVENTIONAL OVEN: Preheat oven to...."

I'm so glad I read the instructions.

Proofreading helps, but... [04/10/03]

[Ponderings]

It doesn't matter how many times I read through a blog post before I post it... there's always at least one typo or grammatical error that I don't catch until I publish it for the world to see.

Maybe the publishing engine adds it. Yeah... that's what it is...

For the Power Users (RSS Feeds Updated) [04/09/03]

[Blogging n Web Stuff]

I updated my RSS Feeds again once I figured out how to make the macros work. They're way way more awesome because the Blog feed now includes comments, the Song feed now includes all the streaming links for the songs, and the Pictures feed actually includes the pictures!! What a deal!!

You've got to use the RSS 2.0 feed to get the most out of all of them. I don't know why there are two versions. If someone else knows, please leave a comment. smile

Roswell and The Dead Zone [04/09/03]

[Television]

This afternoon, TiVo is going to record the last episode of "Roswell." Wow... I thought it was only on for two seasons, but it turns out it was on for three seasons. The first two seasons were on the WB, and the last season was on UPN. No wonder... UPN and I don't run in the same circles. Anytime my friend Duane tells me something good is on UPN, I can't find it. sick I only saw the first season of "Roswell" before it was cancelled. But thanks to the Sci-Fi channel and TiVo, I got to see them all the past few months! Kinda like a soap opera... one episode a day, Monday through Friday. Yesterday's episode made me cry. I love that show so much.

Another show I love (LOVE!) is "The Dead Zone." Dang... Sunday's episode was sooooo freakin' cool! One of the differences in the book/movie and the TV show is that, errrr... well.... if I tell, it will be spoilers for the book/movie. Point is... Sunday's episode reconciled that difference. I loved it! It wasn't even a cheesy thing like "Oooops... it was all a dream." It was something that worked within the context of "The Dead Zone" framework.

The only thing I didn't like so much is that the dread-locked guy cut off his dreads! Ack! I loved his dreadlocks!

Blogshares Blunder [04/08/03]

[Blogshares]

I was pretty excited yesterday when I checked my sidebar and saw that Daypop shares listed on Blogshares had gone up. I'd bought 20 shares at $0.52, and the price had gone up to $10.97. At $10.45 per share profit, I was going to sell a few just for kicks. But when I popped on over there, there was no record of my purchase at all. All Daypop shares and transactions had vanished from my portfolio. I was counting on that to cover the loss on Neurotic Fishbowl shares. It went from $4.22 per share to $0.65.

Oh well... it's still in beta. I hope they get all the kinks worked out soon.

If you own shares in my blog (Christine, Eric and Kevin), I am trying to get the kinks worked out of the merger of a couple of URLs. Thanks for your confidence in Yay! It's a Blog. cool

This or That - Who Is [04/08/03]

[Memes - This or That]

1. Sexier (female)...Pamela Anderson or Jennifer Garner? I had to do a search to make sure Jennifer Garner was who I thought she was (she was). But even before I did the search (and no matter who she was), I was 99% sure I would say she was sexier than Pamela Anderson. Ick.

2. Sexier (male)...Ben Affleck or Matt Damon? I don't find Matt Damon the least bit sexy. So Ben Affleck.

3. The better piano player...Billy Joel or Elton John? I have no idea. I've never paid attention to their piano playing except as accompaniment to their singing. I think there are more Elton John songs I like than Billy Joel songs.

4. Funnier...David Letterman or Craig Kilborn? I liked David Letterman many years ago when he had his own show during the day. I think it was like The Daily Show. I think I like Craig Kilborn better now.

5. The dumber cartoon cat...Stimpy (of *Ren and Stimpy*) or Tom (of *Tom and Jerry*)? If I didn't hate Ren so much, I'd watch Stimpy. I'd give him a big ol' hug, too. I don't care for Tom and Jerry.

6. A better news anchor...Tom Brokaw or Dan Rather? Sheesh... I don't know. I like Peter Jennings for his Canadian accent.

7. A better TV chef...Emeril Lagasse or Jacques Pepin? Who is Jacques Pepin?

8. The trashier talk show host...Maury Povich or Jerry Springer? Don't know, don't care.

9. The worse fast food burger joint...McDonald's or Burger King? Burger King. I can't stand flame broiled burgers.

10. Thought-provoking question of the week: Only a handful of U.S. Presidents have been considered to be *great* Of the following two, which one do you consider to be greater...Franklin D. Roosevelt or Abraham Lincoln? Why? Ding! Don't know, don't care.

Stoopid thing I heard... [04/06/03]

[To Do Lists | What's Going On?]

I heard something stoopid on the radio on Friday. The dj was saying that we started observing daylight savings time so that farmers would have more daylight to do whatever farmers do. Ummm... there isn't anymore daylight, folks. All that's happened is that it's harder to go to bed on time because it's light so late, and it's harder to get up in the morning because it's still dark. I didn't think farmers looked at clocks anyway. Don't they have roosters and sundials or something?

'kay... I didn't do well with my to do list this weekend.

  • unclutter my desk I can't really unclutter it until I get more things done... like my taxes. And mailing my CPA form. If I move them off my desk, I'll forget about them.
  • record a SoloSounds vocal YES!
  • fill out my CPA renewal application and mail the payment
  • do my taxes
  • start *and finish* the laundry
  • clean the kitchen
  • go to the grocery YES!
Next weekend, I'll definitely do my taxes. Or maybe one night this week. Dang... it's already 10:00 p.m. Stoopid farmers.

I'm jealous [04/06/03]

[Gossip]

I'm jealous of my next door neighbor. He has a new back door. I know it sounds kooky, but my duplex doesn't have a back door. His didn't either until this week. If I want to go into the back yard, I have to go out the front door, around the side and through the gate. No small feat since my gate is all screwy and won't open all the way. tongue

Or I can go through the dining room window. That's what I usually do. That's where I should have a back door. Waaaaaah! I want a back door!

To-Do List Update 2 [04/05/03]

[To Do Lists]

To-Do List Update

'kay... before I get into my update, let me acknowledge that Kevin's To-Do list involves waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for time to Spring forward. Only two more hours, Kevin!!

I didn't really get anything done fully. I kinda uncluttered my desk, but only in a half-baked way. I filled out my CPA renewal application, but I didn't mail the payment because (darnit) I need to make a copy of it. I hate making copies. I recorded the lead vocal for a Solosounds song, but not the harmonies and counter melodies. I haven't check the lead vocal to make sure there are no pops and crackles either. That's for tomorrow.

But I did install a tagboard on the left sidebar of the main page of this blog. Yeah, I know... I wasn't going to fool around with my blog, but I got a wild hair to do it. ohwell

Now it's time to say goodnight. You see... I want to be asleep when that hour gets sucked right out from under me. So goodnight all. And goodnight Kevin... don't be bummed out... all Spring forwards can't be da shiznit! smile

To-Do List Update [04/05/03]

[To Do Lists]

It's 3:26 p.m. and the number of things I've done on my weekend to-do list so far is.... a big fat zero! Goose Egg! Nil! Nyet! But I'm listening to the SoloSounds song that I'm going to record in a little while. So I've started the process on one thing. Better get back to it... Rock!

For the Power Users.... [04/04/03]

[Blogging n Web Stuff]

Okay... for all you power users of RSS, I've set up full text XML feeds for all three of my blogs. Thanks to Christine and Lisa the Unix Gal. Dang... I'm getting so nerdy. If you come here for less technical stuff, don't run off... I'll be back to my normal self soon. You know... when technology slows down a bit (yeah right!).

Anyway... I tried out the feeds in Newzcrawler. The XML for my picture blog works, but because I use a Brad Choate MTMacro to display the picture, the pictures don't up. *sigh* I think I'll just leave it the way it is, though. Maybe people will subscribe to the text and come visit if I write an intriguing description. hah!

The songs XML feeds are awesome!! They show credits, download links (if available) and lyrics. They drop the streaming links off, though. I'm running those through macros, but I figure people using the news crawler to watch for updates will be visiting the website itself anyway. I hope.

Alrighty... tomorrow I get back to being a different kind of artist... recording! smile

To-Do List [04/04/03]

[To Do Lists]

Following Christine's lead, I'm making a to-do list for the weekend. Otherwise, I might just tweak my blogs all weekend and find myself at work on Monday morning without having done anything else!
  • unclutter my desk
  • record a SoloSounds vocal
  • fill out my CPA renewal application and mail the payment
  • do my taxes
  • start *and finish* the laundry
  • clean the kitchen
  • go to the grocery

Friday Five - Houses [04/04/03]

[Memes - Friday Five]

friday five
1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life? Two houses (that I remember) before college. Six different apartments and 2-4 different dorm rooms in college. One duplex after college until now. 2. Which was your favorite and why? My favorite is my current duplex because it's the first place I've had that's felt like "home" since I moved out of my parents' house.

3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why? Stressful. Um... because it's a lot of work.

4. What's more important, location or price? Both are equally important. If I had all the money in the world, I guess price wouldn't be important. But location still would be.

5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)? I'm very rooted in reality right now. Sure... if I had all the money in the world, I'd like to have every feature imaginable and someone to keep it all clean and working well. But I'll boil it down to what's the most important to me. Cable or DSL internet access, a nice sized yard with a good fence, two bathrooms and enough bedrooms so I can have my own room (for computer and TV and stuff), a music recording room, a bedroom, plus space for all the stuff I've accumulated over the years.

Yay for tima thinking outloud [04/03/03]

[Blogging n Web Stuff]

Thanks to tima thinking outloud for making a Moveable Type script that will rebuild a selected template without me having to go in and click buttons. I set up a cron job on my server to run the mt-rebuild script to update the Featured Songs of the Day in the middle of the night.

Woo-Hoo! clap

There's more stuff on the tima site that I need to check out. But first, I'm going to have a Coke float with chocolate ice cream! happy

Blogshares [04/03/03]

[Blogshares]

As much as I hate financial market type stuff, I just listed Yay! It's a Blog! on Blogshares. I also invested some (fake) money in other people's blogs. Let it be known right now that I have no ambition in the area of making (fake) money. But I'm somewhat intrigued by watching the numbers. Somewhat. Anyway... I invested in some blogs I found listed that I like. Here's the list so far:

Large Hearted Boy
Daypop (I love that site!)
Scriptygoddess
The Passionate Ailurophile
Like It Matters
The Neurotic Fishbowl
MerrinDonahue.com
My portfolio is worth $133.74 right now. I haven't made or lost any (fake) money yet because I just now invested.

Now the weird thing is that this blog, my picture blog, and my brand new Moveable Type powered songs website all have values on blogshares right now.
Yay! It's a Blog! = $171.20
Yay! Pictures! = $79.35
Kim and Friend's Songs = $33.33
Yay! It's a Blog! should increase in value shortly because there's some more value associated with an old URL that people still link to. It should go up about $58. I think. No... that's probably not right because some of the value of both URLs is based on the links from one to the other. Crikey... I don't know... it should go up, though. Does that mean it would be wise to invest now? I don't know how this stuff works. And if I invest right now, will I get dinged for insider trading? I sure don't want that to happen. Anyway... we'll see what happens...

Yuck!! Ice Cream Issues [04/02/03]

[Food]

I really hate chocolate syrup on ice cream. Blech!!!!!!!!! sick

I have issues with ice cream in general. I despise ice cream socials. And homemade ice cream is good for nothing except instant brain freeze. I also don't like scooping ice cream for other people. I don't mind going to Baskin Robbins or Marble Slab or wherever and having someone scoop ice cream for me. But I don't want to work there.
